Hi there,
Just purchased my first packet of "cut and come again" lettuce seeds
800 seeds in the packet - mixture of bridgemere, exbury, Osterley and Roselee
I've put the trough on the kitchen window sill ( direct sunlight from 12noon)
How long will it be before seedlings show through the compost ?
Any advice on growing it much appreciated ?
It sounds fascinating !

Won't take too long given warmth and water.  If you have a glut you can also make the leaves into a soup - to serve either chilled or hot.

I only grow the cut and come again types and find there is far more variety and never have the opportunity to get bored by growing just one lettuce type.  Also, as there's ony the 2 of us - one head of lettuce would go to waste as there's only so much lettuce you can eat in one sitting.

Advice re picking:
Please advise your OH how to harvest cut and come again or he/she will not understand your glum face when you are shown your first harvest of lettuce dangling by its roots!   :smt103

These really are the best to grow, but make sure you sow some more a couple of weeks after the first lot because they do need renewing after a few pickings. They are just weedier I find. So I always make sure I have a fresh batch ready to take their place. Try putting beetroot and spinach seeds in the mix, their young leaves are delicious in a salad mix!

Mm, now I fancy a fresh picked salad for tea! Roll on the tomatoes (a couple of weeks more for me I think).
