There is a 2500 litres per year personal use exemption from fuel duty.
This exemption simply requires you to keep a record of your consumption and blending recipe for 6 years
Details here  https://www.gov.uk/government/pub...ofuels-and-other-fuel-substitutes

From what I read a blend of 85% rapeseed oil (SVO )and 15% petrol burns in a diesel just like diesel.
The petrol thins the SVO so the viscosity is the same as diesel. BTW the blending is supposed to take place in the tank ! but then  how would anyone know ?

Where is the cheapest source of Rapeseed oil is my question ? preferably in 20litre cans
The wholesale big order price is about 6or 7 hundred dollars a ton
A ton = just under 1100 litres.

Anybody know ?

We have run used cooking oil with 1mil white spirits/litre in our tractors and one light truck years ago when we could get it now it is all collected to make commercial fuel. Top gear drove a BMW diesel on just rape seed oil many years ago but we did it before that.

Thanks Confused.that is 77 pence v 117 pence for diesel a 40p saving and from what I have read emissions and mpg are better in a blend.
Well I tried some in a blend ratio of 10 litres Rapeseed oil 1.5 litres Petrol 10 litres Diesel  in a commonrail diesel engine ( the most difficult apparently) and it runs just fine -if anything slightly quieter with just as much power.

So as long as below 2500 litres and I keep records it is duty free.

Great to hear, yes commonrail is most demanding     Sad but here we pay road tax (mileage) on any thing but petrol as that has it built in.

I would presume that any mechanical warranties would be null and void if you didn't use conventional diesel fuel, otherwise I'd be tempted to give it a go. However with the car only 2 years into its 5 yr warranty I think I'll pass.
