A Nice Picnic.

Later on today, Karen and I will walk to the top of Uwchmynydd and have a picnic.
Uwchmyndd is right on the end of the Lleyn Peninsular, here in North West Wales and is around ten miles away from where we live.
It will mean a fairly steep climb on foot up to the old Coast Guard look out point but once we're up there, we'll be treated to fabulously dramatic views of both Bardsey Sound and Bardsey Island beyond. Its a walk that we've done several times before but never tire of. My legs might but not me.
Ynys Enlli as Bardsey is known in the Welsh language was a popular destination for pilgrims in Medieval times and the island, so legend says, was and still is the home for the graves of Twenty Thousand Saints.

The weather is set fair for today and I'm hoping to be able to get a few photos to show you of both the island and the old strip fields below the look out point. Here's what good old Wikipedia has to say about Bardsey. Now where did I put that Vacuum flask ? I know its here somewhere.

Views from Uwchmyndd.

A gloriously warm and sunny spring day with views of Bardsey Island, Bardsey Sound, an ancient strip field farming system and distant views of the hills known as The Rivals, followed by a gorgeous ice cream in the village of Aberdaron.

A fine choice there Bodger, that is the campsite we stay on when we are over that way, it is 4 years since I was last up there, I drove my mate up to the top to see the sunset as his Motor neurone took away his ability to walk up, it was a beautiful clear evening and he pointed out to me that we could see the Dublin Mountains.
Mr Jones, the owner/farmer there told me that the sheep he has are actually purchased from my landlord in Knowsley Park      small world eh!

We walked past that campsite and although we only live a few miles away, we thought that it looked like a great place to escape to. The village of Aberdaron also surprised us, its undergone a complete make over since we were there last. The whole place looks fabulous, especially the new bakery. An old tine shed has been replaced with a three story thatched building. We'll go again and pretty soon to.

Yes it is beautiful as is Aberdaron,  I wasn't aware they had done some work there, have they rebuilt the bridge yet after that lorry wrecked it?
