Welcome to Gareth's 366/16 Photo A Day Project.

I am going to endeavour to take and post in this album at least 1 photo per day from 1st Jan 2016 until 31st Dec 2016.

I just love to stand still and watch everyone walking up and down the streets umbilically attached to their mobile devices, totally engrossed in their small screen world, directed by their shallow indulgent almost meaningless self-important consumer lust lead lives, as they forget to take a moment, maybe two or more to look around, even up or down and to take in the beauty that encompasses them, even in the hustle and bustle of a populous regional metropolis.

I am opening my 366/16 project with this photo of the Norwich Coat of Arms, because Norwich is where I will probably take most of my photos.

This splendidly carved in stone coat of Norwich arms is on the Norwich School in the Cathedral close.

This is part of the Jarrolds Dept store on London Street. Yes, I know the front corner of Jarrolds is the "famous" view, but only 20 metres or so further along London Street is this magnificent brick and tile façade.

Here in Norwich it has been a miserable overcast day, and for only a few moments the clouds parted and the sun popped out, just as I cycled passed this "Sunshine" gate in Chapelfield Gardens... ... ... ...I have absolutely no idea what lies beyond it.

2016 a photo a day project, 11/01/2016

I couldn't resist taking this photo of the Erpingham Gate and the Cathedral spire ..... and only minutes before the weather changed.

I'll wager you thought that now we are in 2016 you were all free of my lamp fetish.... well, you're wrong!

I do know that I have already posted a few photos of this subject, but I am now experimenting a little with light and framing to see what I can achieve.

This light is considerably bigger than you might think, with the main body and glass of this lantern being about 4 feet tall. With the columns and the hedge it was also bdooly awkward to get into a position to take a decent photo it.

Another of the picnic tables on the patio of the the Norwich Playhouse.

I love these and think it's a great idea to allow local artists and their brushes loose on picnic tables so they may exhibit their pieces in a constantly "fluid" public area.

I did a similar thing 6 years ago with Cargo Cycles by sharing flat pack for storage plywood picnic tables with other small businesses and utilising half the table top as my advertising space, and the other half for my associated business..... it worked really well and got my name and company logo out and about to an awful lot of people all over the place.

Mixing up my special blend of bird food for my back garden feeders.

1 part mixed wild bird seed, 1 part shelled Sunflower hearts and 1 part dried mealworms. On an average day we have 34 species of birds on our garden feeders. Ranging in size from the wren through to Carrion Crows. The most numerous being the Great Tits and Goldfinches, but my favourites are the Jays and Magpies. We have 8 individual Jays and 5 individual Magpies, including one particular Magpie without a tail.

As you all already know, I am a Beekeeper, and I keep this card for reference on the inside of the lid of my Bee equipment box.

You may not know that although it is not required or obligatory, most beekeepers mark the Queens in their colonies with a non-toxic marker type pen so they are easier to spot. There is an adopted but unofficial standard International colour coding so that you can identify the year your colony's queen was hatched, and you can tell how old she is.

For Queens hatched this year the coding colour is white.

Wooden corner support of Armada house Norwich. The timbers that this house is made from are purportedly from the remains of flotsam & jetsam from the Spanish Armada that washed up on Norfolk beaches after Sir Francis Drake had finished with them.
I have it on good authority that this piece of timber is original, and carrying the date of 1589 puts it one year after this epic sea battle 427 years ago.

I do like the timber panelling of this building. I have been told that it is turn of the 19th to 20th century machined panelling... probably cut and moulded on steam powered and leather belt driven spindle moulding machinery.

May 2016.

Wall patress on what was the old Godfrey's DIY and is now the Costswold company.

Patresses although essential for literally holding some buildings together are by and large boring which is why I am now making a range of decorative and commemorative patress wall plates. The first one of a set I have made and sold commemorates a complete refurbishment to a property severally damaged by fire and it features a Flame and date. When it has been installed and is in place I will go and take a few photos of it in its final position.

Two for the price of one. There are not many places in this world of ours where you can get two cathedrals into one photography.

The denuded Mulberry Tree at the Norwich University of the Arts.

I am really annoyed about how this mature Mulberry tree has been dealt with by the NUotA. It should have either been pollarded or coppiced properly at the right time of the year rather than being cut back as it has been. It will be extremely lucky if it survives............ but that probably allows them to circumnavigate a future planning application restriction by having already "accidentally" killed the tree!

My essential oil collection. in each bottle is a different one and I have no idea how many there is, so you count them.
Did you know that I am a qualified Aromatherapist?
I attained NVQ level 3 Aromatherapy just before I met Lois in 2009.
Aromatherapy is one of my pleasures, almost but not quite a hobby as I prefer not to practice. I did mix a specific blend for Natalie Fagg to add to her bath to help ease her back ache on Sunday. 3 dessert spoons of Walnut oil carrier, 10 drops Lavender oil, 10 drops Thyme oil, 10 drops Chamomile oil, 5 drops of Black Pepper oil. Added to a hot bath for a 30-40 minutes soak.

Personally I think that this should be dragged out of the over grown bush to a slightly more prominent position and made a little bit more accessible so it may be appreciated better by the public.

I like this piece of leaded glass work from behind the central pulpit of the Octagon Unitarian Chapel here in Norwich.

Clockwise from the top: Christianity's Cross, Islam's Crescent moon, Hinduism's Om, Judaism's Star of David. Buddhism's Yin-yang and Confucianism's Eternal Wheel, all surrounding the flame of the light of peace.

This asymmetry within a symmetry has a certain harmony, which alas is currently lacking in this world we all live in.
