Alpaca's as fox deterrents ? I've heard about this for a few years now but thought it was probably a load of tosh but these folks seem to value the services of their animals in keeping their turkeys safe, so there might be something in it after all.

My sister keeps Alpacas and Llamas and her chickens and bantams go out into the fields with them every morning and return back to the shed with them every evening.

She's never lost any poultry to Foxes or other predators, but she did lose some chickens when a rambler's unleashed and uncontrolled dog chased and stampeded the Alpacas and Llamas, and the poor chickens didn't get out the way quick enough.

I really don't know anything about the animals.  I've seen them in the fields and they do look very exotic but they only thing I remember about them, is not to go to close to them because they spit, or was that camels?

It was a Collie cross type dog that stampeded my sister's Llamas and Alpacas.

They have no problems seeing off other dogs especially large size ones, and I have seen them deal with an unruly Jack Russell.

They do ok with foxes and smaller dogs, they don't fare so well against the packs of wild dogs/dingoes we get around here.
People tend to use maremmas for livestock protection.
Don't forget they also need shearing.
