There's an old apple tree in our neighbourhood in Devon, growing wild, part of what was an ancient orchard, but every year it still produces delicious fruit. I don't know the variety, but it's like a combination of Cox and Braeburn.  It's a very large tree, and I'd like to try grafting a few small branches on to smaller root stock in my garden, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch maximum diameter, perhaps sometime after Easter.

Is this feasible? And if so, where could I buy the necessary tools and materials?

And any useful tips will be appreciated. Thanks.

Many thanks. I might make an attempt this week anyway: I seem to remember reading somewhere that grafting could be done into the month of April, and spring is somewhat late arriving in our area!
