My terrier has always had phantom pregnancies and apart from the first couple they have usually amounted to her going off her food, nesting under the sofa and bushes in the garden and carting assorted squeaky toys about, they haven't been too troublesome, but his year is a cracker.
The poor bitch is either asleep or going demented at anything that squeaks, cries or beeps like reversing lorires and the microwave, which I am guessing represent lost puppies or predators. She has also taken to crying at her reflection in the TV, so now after night three of next to no sleep we are off to the vet for some prolactin inhibitor and whatever is the equivalent of doggy Valium.
Anyone else's dog get it this bad?

Poor wee scrap.
Has she been dressed ? or did you let her have a litter of puppies ?
Breeding is kind of hardwired into most mammals, so I suppose it's to be expected really.
Probably kindest to get the vet to work his pharmaceutical magic though, and least it'll give her peace from it all.

Didn't get her done initially as it was intended to breed from her and after the first couple of episodes, her phantom pregnancies became less distressing and having her done never became a real issue. This is the first time in over ten years that she has had the full on psychosis.
Following her trip to the vet, she is now fast asleep on my bed. Whether that is the meds or the trauma of the rectal thermometer I'm not sure!
