lops do tend to have large litters this is her second litter.

we did manage to tattoo all the piglets and check them over for birth notification. so 2014 show gilts have been selected at just 18 days of age.

i have spent the morning making up booklets to go with both the sows with feed and vaccine requirements contact details for the AI society details show results for the last 2 seasons etc etc movements licences are sorted so we are almost ready for the moves.

Friday will see us heading for Stoneleigh show we are taking a reduced number of 5 pigs. we are looking forward to seeing a boar we breed and shown last year his new owner is taking him out for the first time this year and i have been asked if i would like to show him

Have a good weekend. My first ever venture into sheep showing is looming. I'll be showing one of Chickenstu's Southdowns at the Anglesey Show on Tuesday the 13th of August.

At this time of the year I bring the horses into the stables at around 4.00pm. Here are the old girls waiting for me this evening.

and here are Pru's babies. I think that you'll agree they're growing well.

Have spent 8 hours today finishing off the pig fencing, and other jobs.
They've learnt if they bulldoze soil onto the wire it shorts out and they can get to more ground.  The rest of the time was building a crush and race and enclosing the feeding racks for the cattle's upcoming tb, we started the tractor to move the crush and after a couple of minutes it died. Stripped the fuel system from injectors to tank and it seemed fine but it wouldn't run. So me and No.2 son man handled the crush until a guy with a tractor came past and moved it for us. We thanked him and he promptly backed over the gate and flattened it
We put a bar in and straightened it as best we could, then tried to coax the beasts out through the crush.Perfect except the bull doesn't fit, his horns and shoulders are too big.
That was it I'd had enough so went home to go to a carol service, the boiler had broke so no hot water, and I was covered in muck and mud. One cold dip later I was ready to go, half way down the M1 I realised why the tractor hadn't fired. I'd turned the diesel tap off.

Were you there 12bore? I looked just like that but less yellow
I've also realised that although we might get away with TB'ing the bull outside of the crush there's no way we can replace the tags he's ripped out so bak to the drawing board......
Yeah we spend more time towing the bdooly tractor than driving it.

The bull was trained up to going through the rush with a bucket of corn and tags put in last week and so up to today.
TB done, no major problems except the bull who can now positively skip through the crush decided he wasn't/couldn't get through. The vet made the fatal error of trying to push him, which convinced him the crush was a scary monster. And you can't push a half tonne beast whose got four wheel drive and a neck as thick as my chest. In the end the corn won and he gingerly followed the bucket and the job was done. Check on Friday.
