There is a charity along the road that helps out people with various mental health issues. One of their operations is fire wood, they buy the hardwood kickers from port of Blyth and Tyne dock, these things are used as dunnage for steel slabs that come in from Russia.
Daft as it sounds its too expensive to send this stuff back so this charity buys it cross cuts it and sells it on as firewood. Its a very dense white wood and its bone dry i had some in the stove tonight just to see how it burns.
Needless to say its a steady burner no spitting and throws a fierce heat just as well as ive bought 3cube.
Its also good to know you're helping a charity into the bargain..Magnet

Unfortunately I aint helping anyone but I work in the steel industry and have ran my burner on this wood for ages. Our steel at work comes in as described and the wood is available FOC for me

I must add, the steel isn't as good as ours though

There's something great about heating the house with wood and the experience is only enhanced by getting it for free or in this instance, helping a worthy hard working charity.
