I have never had White Leghorns to compare but laying wise I can't fault the Exchequers for quanitity or for speed of return to lay after moult.

I was disappointed initially at the size of eggs. For the first couple of seasons they averaged 55g. however they have just come back into lay for their third season and egg size has increased to 65g ocassionally 70g which I am more than happy with.

I have been trying to improve egg size by hatching only from the largest eggs and keeping the largest of the pullets. Already this years pullets are laying eggs of 55g in their first few weeks.

Now I need to keep an eye on the balance of larger eggs whilst still retaining the quanity and making sure the birds stay within the breed standard for shape and size.

Enjoying a dry day after weeks of rain.

The bird in front is one of my older birds, with each moult Exchequers get whiter plumage.
