Grim is the only word to describe this situation. North Wales has had plenty of rain but not so other areas.

I just find it completely incomprehensible that one of the wettest countries in the Northern Hemisphere is still struggling with water shortages

Maybe I do hope you do have a summer like ours and Aussy had RAIN. Most years we all go brown in Jan at latest this year never happened at all       A dry spring is about as bad as it can get we think hope you get good rain where needed.
