Well, I suppose we are food heroes - at least Michael Caines and Gary Rhodes thought so two years running.

We breed and rear very freerange Berkshire pigs.  They mostly run in our hazel woods in family groups.  We use a local slaughter house when the time comes and stay with our pigs to the end.  We then hang them in our cold store and butcher them ourselves.  We make our own bacon and sausages using our own recipes that are completely nitrate free.  In addition we make brawn, faggots, black pudding, pate, hogs pudding - well most things that can be made with pork I suppose.  We operate a free delivery service to the local community, do 6 local farmers markets a month and occasionally sell over the internet.

We are a small smallholding only being around 20 acres with an addition 8 acres that we use for our greyface dartmoor sheep that are produced with the same ethics in mind as our pigs.  This means that there is often a waiting list for our meat.

We also rear hens for eggs - they tend to be converted to scotch eggs and quiches for sale, meat chickens, ducks for eggs and meat, guinea fowl, geese and at certain times turkeys.

All our animals are fed on a GM free diet that is grown and milled in Devon.  All fodder is from neighbouring farms.

We run smallholding and butchery/pig processing courses with the aim to show people what can be achieved in a family kitchen whether you have half a pig or just a peice of belly pork from your butchers - we show basic dairying as well as the plucking and dressing of poultry.

We rear pigs for people who haven't the space to rear their own.

We have just been visited by Hillary Bradt who is to feature our holding in her next travel and food guiide - "Slow Devon" and are now rearing a pig for her.

I can vouch for the meat from Debbie as I had a trial pack from her a while back and it was some of the most tastey suculent  pork I have ever tasted.
I like to try free range meat from diffrent producers around the country and having tasted meat from diffrent regions  I would say that Hidden Valley produce comes out as one of the top ones that I have had the pleasure to consume.

Hi Tilly

Hogs pudding is a sausage made from fairly fatting pork with added grits (fine oatmeal) or rusk that is quite highly spiced with white pepper.  It is then boiled.  When you buy it all you do is fry it to accompany your full english - goes alongside the black pudding I suppose.  Difficult to get a good one now a days which is why we make our own.  Very popular (along with the black pudding) in the farmers markets we do.

And I for one can vouch for Debbie's black pudding     Best I've tasted outside of the Midlands where I come from.
