Metcheck has given out what for this time of the year is going to be a roasting week. Temperatures are going to soar to around 19 degrees in the day time and only down to 11 or 12 at night. We've taken the plunge and yanked the horses light rugs off for the duration, how about you ?
I'm sure that Doodle might be on the phone when she sees this. _________________ A friendly family based countryside forum.

Yep, Bodge, same here, rugs off all day yesterday, and just a light 'mackintosh' on for the night as rain was forecast. Rugs will be off again today |

We took the horses rugs off on the strength of met check and then it poured down with rain all night. We felt rather guilty. _________________ A friendly family based countryside forum.

Our first pony was a real little toughie and didn't have a rug to her name but since then all except Bella have a rug for every eventuality _________________

I'm always surprised to see rugs on in summer, just because it's raining. I've always reckoned they need a bit of rain on their backs - nature's way of cleaning their coats.
I used to have a white white grey who was, of course, a bu88er to keep clean in winter. I used to let him out for a roll in the snow without his rug occasionally, and he came in dazzling white - even the roots of his mane! _________________ Lead me not into temptation.....I know the way already. |

Ours were on the ones that are clipped at night, and were off in day...today though, they stayed on with all that rain we had this morning!

It's only my old, arthritic ex-racehorse who has the rugs - the Section A's hate 'em |

I'm with you on that one! I own a couple of sheets, but nothing heavy at all and it's been years since I've gotten one out. The last time was when we had a cold snap after Mickey lost his winter coat and then it rained. When I saw the boy shivering, he wore his sheet. Most times, the barn is closed up so they don't even get in there. They are pretty hearty beasts and get nice, thick, soft winter coats. 'course....the heavy layer of FAT they are all toting around might have something to do with not needing "clothing"!!! |
