We must all have favourite books or DVDs on countryside topics, please bring your favourites to the attention of other members and do something along the lines of a short book review.

Please feel free to continue to add as many books to this thread as you like as a useful resource to both the experienced and inexperienced.

Wild Flowers of Britain
By Roger Phillips

I have been thumbing through this book for over thirty years I believe it is still in print hundreds of photos of wild flowers great for the identification of that pretty/strange/tiny/ huge plant you have only just noticed. Must have for the plant lover

Greenman should like this book. It not only identifies wild flowers but goes on to show you how to grow them. If you're into the UK's flowers, then its a must get.

and whats more, its available at a much cheaper price than I paid for it.

Any book written and also illustrated by BB--DJ Watkins-Pitchford gets my vote.He was (now sadly dead) a great countyman, into Shooting, fishing, and also a brilliant naturalist. For years he wrote in the Shooting Times.

His books have now become very collectable, forcing their prices skywards. Books that I paid just a few quid for years ago, are now making hundreds of pounds each.

If you get the chance, read one I promice you won't be dissapointed.

I have a copy of "Its my delight" a book also written by Brian Vessy-Fitzgerald. As you might guess, it's subject matter is mostly about Poachers and their dogs, and the methods used to take fur and feather.

It is a charming read, and the illustrations by Denys J Watkins- Pitchford ars superb,as ever.

I seem to remember BVF was editor of Shooting Times many years ago, he was also a keen Wildfowler in his day.
