Our woodburner stands straight on the tiled floor and has the flue running into a chimney that was bricked up years ago

Wrote 2 woodburning articles for Smallholder back in Oct/Nov 2008. Weve got one on slate and one of floor tiles bedded onto plinth. Legally, youve got t have them housed on a non-combustible surface. Have seen many on slate but not deep enough so that when you open the door cinders can fall outonto wood floor/carpet. (This is now illegal on new installations - youve got to have clearance over a non cmbustible surface.) _________________ ensuite B&B near Wadebridge hatching eggs Blacksmithing & welding tuition

We bought a square of thick pink marble to put one stove on and never used it. Our outside brazier looks very posh now . _________________ A friendly family based countryside forum.

This is our big CH and HW multifuel one. Its on 2 natural Indian sandstone paving slabs supported on bricks. Works a treat but if you choose this option SEAL THEM before you fire up the stove as they get marked easily. Love Lizzie _________________ Norfolk 'n good!! |

And this is our baby one!! Its inset into an old hearth made of bricks, and flue goes up old chimney. We hardly ever use this one except in bitter weather but I think its a jotul and incredibly good at cooking stews! Oh and its usually has a Jack Russell underneath roasting nicely. Aparantly it is lined - according to the people we bought the house from. It only gets used for a few chilly evenigs and if we have a power cut. We rented a house with a woodburner and unlined chimney and there was tar seeping thru in the bedroom!!! I was always petrified the whole thing would catch fire so we never used it. A really great job, or should that be grate ? The nice thing, is that all though you've only just fitted it, it looks as though its always been there. Well done you. _________________ A friendly family based countryside forum.
