Yesterday we went to the garden centre to buy some plants to put in our polytunnel but on our way around the centre I was tempted and bought a pack of 'Giant' sunflower seeds. Most years we have some growing  but these usually come from the discarded seeds from in and around our bird feeders.
We some times get multi headed plants but it's not very often that we set out to grow some real biggies.
Years ago I seem to recall having a bit of a competition on the forum to see who could grow the biggest specimen. It's the sort of thing that we used to do on here, so is there anyone out there who'd like to join in this time around? It's something I'll be doing anyway. I'm thinking that having some lining the driveway would look nice. We have some humungus big pots doing nothing that we can utilise.

I'm sticking the sunflower seed into pots. They're of the Russian Giant variety.

I'll give it a go but I'm just going to use the ordinary ones in among the bird food. I have that to hand, and don't see me getting to a garden centre any time soon.

Race you ?

You'd better get going Toddy, I've already put mine in. I've got half a packet of the Russian Giants going if you want to try them. Let me know.

I'll be setting some of the bird feed kind as well.

Bodger kindly shared some of his Russian Giant seeds with me and they have just been sown in pots. Unkindly handled by the P.O. but I'm hopeful that the unbroken ones will come on.
I had already planted four pots with some of the little black ones from the bird seed mix, so we'll see how it goes.

Who else is going to give this a go ?

M

Would love to join in but it's so windy up here that they just can't get any height to them.

But will watch with interest.
