A wee update on my grandson, and his attempt to earn himself a  wage, he certainly seems keen enough , i have been working a few days alongside him trying to show him some good habits, on his say-so ,i have bought him a trailer , for my motor ! and yesterday he purchased a secondhand grass cutter, i was impressed by his thinking on the grass cutter ,he said "It's a honda engine and they must be good ,because people hardly ever sell them secondhand , they usually keep them untill they are rusted away, i have tried to tell him that sometimes you have to do someone a favour to get a foot in the door, and it seems to be sinking in , as a few weeks ago i suggested that he offered to pick horse poo from a local paddock in return for the bags of poo which he could sell to the allotment holders on my site  , not a lot of cash but still better than being idle , the owner of the stables was impressed with his efforts and has told him he can have the whole muck heap in the yard !! and has asked him to give her a price for painting the gutters on her loose boxs , small steps but steady ones, i hope it continues .

Work for the pennies, and the pounds roll in.

Good on him

Time for another wee update, I am delighted to say that the youngster has continued to work like a trojan, i said to him last week ,2 your allowed to take a day off" his reply was "I've already used my supply over the past umpteen years ,so lets just get on with it ," I felt so proud of him , lets hope it continues.
I hope this thread is'nt boring anyone ,but i have told him that i posted our story on here ,to which he replied "I better no let ye down then "

Sounds like the lad's got a decent head on his shoulders and not afraid of hard work.

"I've already used my supply over the past umpteen years ,so lets just get on with it "

"I better no let ye down then "

You don't live anywhwere near me do you ? I've a line of slabs needing trued up, and the elderly Uncle's needing work done on his paths and gutters too.

Well I have'nt been on for a wee  while  been busy ,also had a wee spell in hospital but all on the mend now, on the up side my grandson is getting on with things and looks like he is enjoying the experience, he has been mega busy, and has picked up loads of grass cutting, and his add on to this is ,he mow offers the householders that he will put there rubbish bins out, wash them and put them back, as he say's "I might never be a millionare but at least I can sleep at night knowing that I have earned my corn for the day "
When he said that  I knew that he had turned a big corner in his life ,all we need now is a driving licence for him and he is set , he has been offered a job working with a builder, but he turned it down saying " I reckon I will be better working for myself at the moment ,as I know that I can make that shilling my Pa-Pa "
P.S.  When I was in hospital he sent a message to me saying "To busy to visit I know you will get better quicker in the knowledge that im working ,not swaning off to visit old men lying in their beds " I loved that .

Well it's been nearly 6 month since we started this journey , all seems to be going well but the days are shorter now and the hours that can be worked are less, or so I thought !! but it would seem that my grandson has other ideas, his new train of thought is that he moves into my garage as a workshop, and gets busy making bird feeders,/ nest boxes/insect houses, etc for the xmas /spring, it might not make him his fortune but it might just keep the wolf from the door, my big problem is allowing myself to  let him go and be a "Big Boy" I still want to use the power saw /drill etc , just in case ? I still see him as the helpless lad who a few month ago couldn't use a hammer never mind an axe ! every time I see him chopping bags of firewood I hear myself saying " Watch what YOUR DOING with axe "  for any's sake he is 26 yr's old , a man , I really need to get a grip, it surprises me that he has never blown his top at me , the way I still watch over him like a mother hen,
I find it hard to believe that he has come so far in a short while, hopefully all will continue in the same manner for the foreseeable future, and I can take a back seat and just watch him get on with his life.
