There is a very young puppy in a new crate in my bedroom, screaming her head off.

I have never used a crate before but after four years of having to keep getting up to let Pereg out due to her epilepsy and medication, I thought crate.

Two years it took me to find Pereg, this time just two days, and she was brought round on Sunday more-or-less take her or she will be thrown away like the others.  Stupid people not bothering to get their bitches spayed but do not start me on that subject.

So, Ziva arrived.  Never seen her before but hey, who cares?

She is not a replacement for my beloved Pereg, she is to honour Pereg's memory.

My vet sent his assistant vet to check her yesterday and she said what I thought - she is maximum one month old but is happy eating tiny bits of raw food.  Goes out and pees on command and is a right shrieker.

The vet who checked her is horrified that I raw feed, but it turned out she is vegan.  I mean what do dogs eat?

Ziva is here and Ziva will stay.  Shrieker though she is.

Four weeks old ?
You can buy nappies that will fit a puppy even if they're meant for human babies.
I'd buy a baby sling and use the nappies. A four week old puppy ought to be in almost constant contact with something warm blooded.
They do train quickly too, especially if you're with them a lot of the time. Guide dog puppies can be toilet trained on command at five months old; I managed that and I'm not really a doggy person, I'm sure that someone who is would do better.

If the nappies sound expensive then they're easily made from old woolen jumpers or from fleece fabric. Just soak and boil wash and they're reuseable.  The wool felts, but you want it to do so.
Like babies, change often and don't leave them lying wet or dirty.
It's only for a few weeks while you carry her around until she's of a more usual age to leave her mother.

Glad to hear you have another furry friend Juli. They are such company but you're right, Ziva is not a replacement for darling Pereg. What type of dog is she? Would love to see a photo of her. Hopefully she'll stop shrieking when she settles. When I got Polly (at one year old) she didn't bark at all for the first three months I had her and I thought I had a dog who didn't know how to "talk" but boy has she made up for it since then.

I'm so glad you've got a new 'baby' Juli. As you say, not a replacement for Pereg, But it sounds like this little one needs a home, and it's with you.

She is very sweet - goes pee pee and kaki on command outside although I do have puppy pads indoors.

So far I have only gone across the road to the little store with her [apart from going to the store at the Dog Pension to buy a bed and a crate for her on Sunday] and of course she is on my lap because I cannot walk.

I do not know.  I was told 6 weeks but I thought a month, and Michal, the assistant vet who came here and checked her over yesterday also said one month.

She does not cry much but when she does she shrieks!

And whatever she was fed on before, and I have no idea, she is now raw fed and scoffs it.  Not much but she knows it is FOOD - and she is rather cute.

I think I will keep her!

So happy to hear this Im sure Pereg would be happy too. Waiting for photos. We have found with puppys a hot water bottle in cloth with tick tock clock like a heart beat helps them carm and sleep. She sounds just right  as she rides on your lap

The squeaker went to bed in her crate last night without complaint, and slept until about 5am  then squeaked and woke me.  I took her out and she pee'd and the puppy pad in her crate was dry so I reckon she is going to be easy to train.

I must have known not to put Pereg's toys away - I just left them in the plastic boxes [she did have rather a lot] as Ziva has already taken out some that she fancies.

She also seems to be aware of me switching my chair on - that is what I was frightened of, being scared of running over her as my chair is very heavy, but she moves as soon as I switch it on so so far so good.

Ziva.  Ziva the squeaker.  Just what I did not want.  A very young puppy.  But she must have wanted me.

She does not like going in the crate during the day but is fine on it at at night.  It is so new for me as I have never used a crate before.  Lexi slept on my slippers beside the bed until she could get up on it, and I hoiked Pereg up on the bed when she arrived.  One each side of me until Lexi died in her sleep.

Ziva?

Little squeaker.  But knows outside is for pee's and poos.

And she will only eat tiny bits of raw food.    Dis dawg is not stupid.

She just squeaks.

I know I have not been around  much  but my beloved Pereg took up most of my life.

And now I have IT.  Ziva.

And I am much too old to have a tiny  puppy.

Very adorable but she's decidedly sticking her neck out by sleeping with a giraffe.
