My trip into town this morning produced two full bags of bread waste and nine more pallets. Those pallets will heat the house for almost a week.

We have a whole trailer full of reclaimed timber, which John is cutting up for burning.  Its all dry and will keep us warm for a couple of weeks.
This year we have burnt quite a large amount of wood, probably about 3 tons ,mainly I think because it has been damp, not really cold.
So far no snow, and only a couple of days of hard frost.

With the current UK weather set to remain cold at least until the middle of April, the firewood situation here at home is going to be precarious. There are lots of people competing for the pallets that we've been burning and we're probably going to run out.

Since the end of last winter, I've continued to collect pallets and I've been able to come by some most weeks. Here are a couple of pictures of my stash and i'm still adding to it.

The electric chain saw soon turns them into woodburner size pieces.

Why are pallets not re-used by the original user? Are they always chucked out and replaced by new?

A lot here are also from overseas plus the cost of freight to return. We do have a couple of hire pallet company here that they just keep going around from each use

I got another load this morning. Four of them were huge and I had a job getting them into the back of the van. I had to drive home with the back doors open and they are very substantial indeed. I must be able to make something with them rather than burn them.
