As a way of saving a few pounds we bought a set of chimney rods and brushes, also got the various drain clearing bits to go on the rods. Whole lot cost about 55 , we used to pay 75 just to have our two chimneys done once a year!
Finally needed to use them for the drains, as they have blocked, very strange though as the pig tail attachment goes all the way through to the septic tank "which has been emptied" but the drain is not emptying might still have to pay to have this one sorted, totally confused by this.

Hiya goodlife, it really is quite vexing, the pig tail flys through with screwing motion and ramming, however the rubber plunger does appear to meet something that impedes it around four rods in, at this same point the pig tail does temporarily catch on something .Of course this piece just had to be the small section that is under tarmac. The pipe is full of water, when we tip a load of water in the inspection pit it goes away but it's not coming into the septic tank.

Think this one maybe beyond me!

What type of pipes are we talking about here, plactic, cememt, old clay glazed pipes.

Hiya Border, the place was built in 1970;  I believe they are glazed clay. My next idea is to feed pig tail through, take it off and put plunger on with cord attatched then try pulling the rods back  through from the other end, if it gets jammed then hopefully can pull it back septic end with the cord.

It could be that a pipe has collapsed

I was going to say as the pipe goes under tarmac, and if its been driven over, maybe the pipe has collapsed as Horace says, or maybe the pipe has sunken.

As you can get the pig tail to go though, but not a plunger, I would think that the pipes have sunken.

Let us know what you find out.

Well! I was getting a little miffed to say the least, tried pulling backwards but was having none of it, about to give up and thought there's another inspection pit further up the yard which must be shallower again so went in from there, gave it help with the plunger back and forth but still stopped at the same point, then suddenly huge gurgling rushing and whoosh, everything gone    couldn't believe it, one and a half days of struggle.
Now were left wondering has one of the grand kids flushed a toy or is it a collapse or a tree route or just the house sitter used so much bog roll in the two weeks we were away?
Hopefully it was just a one off, time will tell.
Thanks for your input.
So now the rods have saved me another hundred and fifty at least.
