How many worms did you drown then?

Yesterday I went passed the old carp pond that I used to go to but the owner is a complete arse and I don't fancy the chance of giving him the excuse to say no to me. Its a great shame, because I had some good days fishing there and the carp will be three or four years older and bigger now.

It is closed season for me.

These days I only fish the rivers and broads. I gave up fishing stillwaters including fishing stillwaters through the river closed season in 2004.

The out and out commercialisation of the stillwaters and their focus upon Carp soured it for me. Although I am predominately a predator angler, I still do enjoy drowning maggots, worms and corn for Roach, Rudd, Skimmers and Tench, and these days it is an absolute pleasure for me to trot a float on a river; even a city centre stretch for these species of fish rather than on a commercial stillwater where my peace and tranquillity is constantly disturbed by the almost constant noise emanating from incorrectly set electronic bite alarms, portable TVs, games consoles and mobile phones.

You definitely need to pick your waters carefully. Its likely that this pool hasn't been fished since I last fished it about four years ago.

My fav fishing is up the wee country burns , a few brambling worms ,or maggot, dock grub ,catching a nice wee brownie , if the chance comes along   I don't mind a shot at the bobbing minnow for something a bit bigger ,
I've been out twice this year , and the results are a big  ---ZERO !

I was out on Saturday , had a wee bit luck 2 small brownies , but big enough to keep, so it was nice to enjoy my first fresh fish of the season , I just hope the next ones are bigger .

Yesterday i spent the whole day fishing !  my wife dropped me off at 5.45 am on her way to work, i fished and walked about 4 miles down through a wee country glen , and fished the burn as i went , i never caught anything of any real size , i did manage to bring home 3 keepers around 11 inch's , and i had a fantastic time just being out in the peace and quiet, my other half thought i was crazy when she picked me up after her work ,at 4.30 pm , she just could'nt see what pleasure i could have had only catching 3 fish     , I hope she never experiences the pleasure i find in these kind of days   otherwise my peace and quiet will be shattered !

P.S.  I did manage to cut myself 5 ash , and 2 holly , walking stick shanks , maybe i should look more in the water and not as much in the trees , then i might be more successful at the fishing

My brother and I spent a few hours fishing off the rocks on Sunday. We fished with squid on the bottom and managed to catch two dog fish each but I beat him, because I also pulled up a large spider crab that had latched itself to my bait.

My brother is coming down at the weekend and the plan is to spend a sedate day fishing in Pwllheli harbour. I'm expecting some flatfish and possibly some eels.
