Yet more sausages

Last week we sent in seven six month old porkers for the chop. Three of them came back as boxed half pigs and the others as sausages and now its Dots turn.
Its a great shame. Dots, along with Gladys is one of two humungus big GOS sows that we bought last year. We were very lucky to get both of them in pig and to have a litter off them but unfortunately, we haven't been able to get her back in pig. Over the last few months she's been mated by the boar five time but while Gladys appears to have held, Dot hasn't. She's already up the road in Colwyn Bay which is just a stones throw from the slaughter house and the people with the boar have offered to drop her off there for me.
Its going to be one of the sad events that just about all livestock keepers have to deal with but on a practical note, I've already got three freezers full to the brim and I've somehow got to get freezer space for between three and four hundred mores packs of sausages and burgers.

I can send a disposal address for the burgers   . It's a shame as you say, I often felt odd killing queen beds, but it has to be done or we would all be knee deep in older unproductive beasts!

So sad so true   pet house cows are my problem so don't have pet ones now

It's one of the things we all have to face up to if we keep livestock. Better to go away in a healthy state having had a good life than to end up in some house of horrors with a lorry load of other cull animals. You've done your best for her John.

I've just had a firm order for 400 Dot burgers from a local pub, so that's the freezer space sorted.

A weeks reprieve for Dot. We've had a phone call from Colwyn Bay to say that they failed to get her into the trailer and that they'll try again next week.

If only she knew   I still haven't had time to have another go at sausage making, or anything else for that matter

I've just had a phone call to say that Dot has been safely loaded into the trailer. They said they would be sad to see her go, I wish they hadn't told me.

You can't keep them all, shame tho'
