Would you?

Would you rather have the smell of an abbatoir, or from a brewery?
How NIMBY is this?

I don't know how much smell a micro brewery can produce but I remember going to Stone years (and I mean decades) ago and there was an all pervading smell from a brewery which has since closed down. I can't remember which brewery it was

Brewery definitely!  I would however feel constrained to 'complain' somewhat and find I was satisfactorily mollified by the resulting gratuitous free samples I would get as compensation every week!

I was in a 5 British Barrel Plant (half the size of the one in Bodger's link) two days ago and there was absolutely no smell outside of the building.  Mindst you, when you did get inside, it smelled lovely!

We have the Banks/Marston brewery in Wolverhampton and with the amount they brew there is a 'hoppy' smell that permiates the air when they are brewing. Although it is fairly strong it is not unpleasent :-)

I used to regularly travel past the Greenall Whitley brewery and all that I can say, is that it always smelled much better than it tasted.

I was at college in Lewes (East Sussex) where the Harvey's brewery was based - some days I swear you could get tiddly on the smell round the town - it was wonderful

The primary school I went to in Petone was across he road from the "Gear Meat Works" and the smell was so strong it ws said if you swung a hunk of bread around in the air you would get a meat sandwich

We used to live in South Queensferry just outside Edinburgh and I remember walking down a hill to the road that ran along the side of the water....there was a brewery there, they did scotch whiskey if I recall...

It stunk! And for the life of me, I can't remember what brand it was....
