ONE snake in the basement.  Last week, I went down the steps, barefoot, and nearly stepped on this two foot long snake! :smt103  :smt103 After I got done going EEEK! I picked him up and put him outside.  He was not a poisonous snake. He was a young black rat snake, which eat mice.  I just can't figure out for sure how he got into the basement.  It's good and tight, no outside doors, no cracks.

What I think might have happened was that I brought him in. I went hunting in Missouri and stayed at a motel that was out in the country.  There is a wheatfield bordering the motel property on two sides.  It's very rural and the motel rooms have outside doors.  I can see a snake getting into the motel room more easily than into our basement.  I took off my hunting clothes and put them in a garbage bag near the door to our room.  I think he got into the garbage bag, rode in it six hours back here, and was carried to the basement laundry area.  I left the clothes sitting in the bag down there overnight.

I'm just glad if he rode back in the Jeep with me that he stayed in the damn bag!  I'd have climbed out and given him the Jeep if he'd slid over my neck going down the road.  ::

PHEW!!!!

I was imagining a scene from an Indiana Jones movie   :q28:  :q28:

(Not that I dislike snakes - in fact I quite like them - no problem handling one. Now Arnold the Red Kneed tarantula is something else . EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!)

Well I was wearing my hat and carrying that big long whip when I went into the basement the next few times.  :q28:  :q28:

Snakes don't bother me, but I'm with you on the spiders.  Too many legs.

And a meercat or two would be nice.

Meerkats are great, but more than that I'd like a Ring Tailed Lemur.  Brilliant stripy tailed bundles of mischief.
dan

picked a meercat up for next door, they had got a very lonely little boy one, so they got him a girlfriend, think they had a lovers tiff first time they met, and as far as i know there still not talking now  ::  ::

Imagine the exercise they'd need!  You'd need a big garden!
Pel

Be a bit like a pig, digging holes for the burrows, and scampering about. I like meerkats, think i'd need at least 5 though, so they can make some sort of hierachy.

Very cute photo though, were they for sale, or just to look at?

What could you train that to hunt? Cute, but definitely not a hunting accessory.
