What's on in Wales in July?

We're planning a trip to Wales in July.
What's on?
We're already planning to attend the Royal Welsh Show.
So around those dates.

What else is a must see while we're in Wales?

TIA
Jacquie

Worth the trip in itself!

Aww thankyou. We'll be hiring a snail to get around in so we can be a bit more flexible with our dates.

We've heard that the general public can't attend the first day?
So the last 3 days of it.
We've allowed 3 days for the show.
What's within an hour or so of Builth Wells that we can have a look at if we're finished with the show?

Prior to the RWAS we'll be in the Abergavenny area for 2 nights.
Big Pit mine. Anything else?

After RWAS we're planning 2 nights in Caerphilly to attend their festival.
Anything else worth seeing in that area?

Hay on Wye is a must if you like books and Even if you don't a nice place to visit. But I would say that I live there. Which part of Melbourne are you from?
Kirribindi Farm

West Gippsland about an hour 1/2 out of central Melbourne.

St Fagans has got to be a must and it's for free.

The Elan Valley is worth a visit - just up the road from Builth Wells near Rhayader.

Brecon Beacons are just down the road.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I'll check them out.

After your two nights in Caerphilly at The Big Cheese, why not try to fit in Castell Coch (five minute drive) and perhaps Cardiff Castle (20 mins from
Castell Coch). Both worth a visit, owned by Marquis of Bute and the architect was William Burgess for both. Castell Coch is absolutely beautiful, set in woodlands and every room is a treat - as is Cardiff Castle - but in Castell Coch you are just left to your own devices to wander round, whereas in Cardiff, it's guided tours.
Enjoy yourselves !

Thankyou

Finding it extremely difficult to get accommodation near Builth Wells during RWAS week.
Any suggestions?

The way it's looking we may just stay on in Abergavenny and drive up each day. I've done the drive before and loved the scenery.

The accommodation around what has become just about the UK's premier show is booked years ahead so you'll have to spread your search much further afield. I'd be looking north of the event.

I've a great fondness for the university town of Aberystwyth. It's on the coast and is only an hour away from the show ground.

Dependent on how many of us are going, and on which day, should we have a R/V point and time during the day. Perhaps the NFU or Principality hospitality rooms.

How many of you will need accommodation?

Just 2 of us.

Thinking now of just basing ourselves in Abergavenny and driving up to RWAS.

Hay on Wye and the surrounding area have loads of accommodation and it's only about 20 mins to the show ground, might be worth a look.
