weed killer

Can anyone tell me the amount of Glyfos to add to a gallon of water to kill weeds? There are no instructions on the container. I am spraying my railway track which is smothered after the mild winter. I'm guessing the amount but they are taking 3 weeks to dye so it is probably to weak.

It can take about 3 weeks for the sprayed weeds to die.
Unless you know the concentration of the glco that you have got it's difficult to give you an answer about the dilution factor.

Hello Kaz, Its just a standard 5 ltr container as supplied to farmers.
I bought it from Melton Mombray market. I asked the seller if you had to be a farmer to buy it ? He said "You are a farmer." so I agreed.

Not very scientific but.... years ago I worked for a landscape gardener when he put a sprayer and a tub of roundup in my van I questioned him about the ratios required, now i'm pretty sure it was a 15ltr knapsack sprayer, he said fill it up with water a put about a coke can full of weed killer in
I also mentioned the fact that I did not have a sprayer's licence, he said it was ok to use it if somebody with the licence had mixed it for you, and just to say that was the case if ever questioned about it.

Round up in that size container over here would be in a concentration of 360g/l glyphosphate. For general weeds/grasses the recommended ratio is 10ml per litre ie 45ml/ gallon or 150ml/ 15lt knapsack.
I use it at that rate all the time and get good kills on most things, without going any stronger or adding another chemical.

ml of glyphos

I would google the product and find the data sheet for it.  They do vary from year to year.  Typically I use 30ml per 5ltr for gras and 45ml per 5 ltr of water for bramble.  It takes about 3 weeks to die.
If you dont want to get rid of the grass you could go for a wide leaf spray which kills only big leaves.  good for getting rid of docs in grass fields.

Thank you for the replies.
It looks as if I made it stronger than necessery, as I used  a third of a mug to a gallon so I must wait. I think some of the weeds are starting to wilt.

Also you should just put enough on to wet the leave but not allow run off.  Half a mug will def kill everything.  However some chemicals work worse if stronger.

These chemicals need to be treated with respect and not guessed amounts.  The eco system is very delecate and we can damage areas if not careful.
