Water Bill?Non-Return to Sewer Allowance?
I'm in need of some help and advice with regard to the above.
Let me run our situation past you and our recent dealings with Welsh Water.
We have a registered four acre smallholding and we're on a water meter. We keep from 20 to 40 free range pigs all year round. I also keep about 100 mixed poultry and in addition have a large polytunnel and a green house. Our neighbour also runs some cattle in our fields from time to time. All the livestock, especially the pigs with wallows etc, use a large amount of water.
My wife and I live in a four bedroomed house and we are the only people living on the property.
In February of 2015, unbeknown to us, the water company changed the way in which they calculated our combined water bill and sewage charges. The sewerage part of our bill is now calculated whole y and solely from the amount of water that goes through the meter. Since then, our monthly bill has risen enormously.
I contacted them to register my concerns and they informed me that I needed to contact them in writing, which I've done.
Today, I've had a letter from them telling me that they are prepared to reduce our sewerage charges by 36% per month and that they would make this effective from the 1st of April 2016.
I'm not happy with this at all.
Firstly, in my opinion 36% doesn't in anyway represent the amount of water that we use on a day to day basis which doesn't go into the mains sewer system. And secondly, why should they pluck the April date out of the air when the higher charges have been inflicted on us for a much longer period of time?
Has anyone had similar dealings with water companies? They have asked me for yet another letter objecting to their decision.
To me it seems very unfair and miserly, what do you think? How do I stand should I be able to get the percentage of relief increased and what about them only back dating the first of April?
Unfortunately, I'm not a member of the NFU ( I am insured with them) or any other farming union and when I contacted the BPA, although they were sympathetic to our problem they advised me to raise the question on forums and fb groups such as this one.
