Avoid anything that cuts the bag as it seals, they oftne end up as leaky bags, the more you spend the better you get.
I have a reber from the sausage maker, and it has done me well for over a year and I seal thousands of bags with it http://www.sausagemaking.org/acatalog/Vacuum_Packing_Machines.html, but I am saving up for an industrial one but I think that might be over kill for a few portins of stew.

its a great machine and I have had no problems with it but you must use textured bags with it, Franco didnt have the size I wanted so after lots of searching i found these people https://www.culinaryinnovations.co.uk/osb/showitem.cfm/Category/14/, the delivery is quite expensive, about 10, but I buy 500 bags at a time so it makes it cheaper and its fast as well.
