Tutbury Castle, Medieval Market

This weekend coming I am off to Tutbury Castle, between Burton Upon Trent and Uttoxeter, a splendid Royal ruin in a lovely setting (unless it's windy, when it's rather exposed!). One John of Gaunt's favourite castle, later prison for Mary Queen of Scots, and reputedly haunted.

I shall be dressed suitably, and assisting SWMBO trading there at a Medieval Market (I get to do the difficult bits like putting the tent(s) up, she gets to arrange her stock to best advantage).

Best wishes
David

Well, that was FUN and a bit - the weather was lovely on the Friday when we got there after fun and games with the van, and we set up the Burgundian trading tent and then the nylon "tent city", and had a very pleasant evening chatting and drinking with other traders around a nice fire fed with pine cones (which I collect for this and our open fire).

Then Saturday arrived, with gales amid the sunshine and showers, and for what ever reason the public stayed away. Maybe they know to avoid Tutbury if it is windy? Those few that did turn out spent reasonably well, so SWMBO actually recorded her "best yet" sales figures (although a lot of that was at knock down get shot of old stock prices.

It became so bad that everyone decided to pull down and go shortly after lunch on the Sunday - the gusts were becoming dangerous, one poor guy got a nasty cut just below his eye when the wind caught one of his tent poles and it came straight through the canvas and whacked him - he could have lost an eye!

Luckily we got both tents back on the van dry, which is handy as we don't have space at home to put them up to dry them.

Best wishes
David
