Tikki Tikva

The devil mini monster is now 10˝ months old.  And she is evil!  Rather sweet though, when she does not bite, but will cuddle up on my lap when I need a nap on my recliner, and I love it, and she is wonderful with small children - actually she is wonderful with everyone except me, who she will bite when she feels like it!  Which is most of the time!

She is a funny little dog - looks sort of like a Doxie but with a shorter back and longer legs, but it is impossible to take photographs of her as she is  either rushing around outside on her tether or she is inside, zonking on the couch.  She is very skinny - ribs showing  - but has solid bones and muscles, with perfect joints.  But oh so skinny - 5.5kg so heavy for her size, and she is such an active little dog.

I also have a problem posting photographs now as TinyPic will not work with Windows 10, and I cannot get into my ancient PhotoBucket account.  Windows 10 is brilliant for most things, but it just will not let me post photos.  Maybe one day I will find out how.

Tikva's primary vet, Michal, a young girl [Ram, the big boss always looked after Pereg] comes here for basic things as the performance for me to take her to the surgery is just about impossible.  At the moment Tikki is still having worm pills every three months until after her first one, which was when I rescued her, not until her DoB, and after that it will be twice a year.  But as Parkworm has now travelled south from where it originated here in Ramat Gan, Tikva needs a shot [not a pill] every three months for life.

So Michal will come here for whatever is needed, although she cannot give the rabies shot which has to be done by Vadim, the Local Authority Vet - who turns up about four weeks after the yearly booster shots.

Today is the first anniversary  of losing my beloved Pereg.

Oh how I miss her but she is now free from that Monster called epilepsy.

I am in the same position as you Juli, Sasha makes a fuss with everybody else but bits me to bits

Funny we have a white deaf cat (Mitzy ) that all of a sudden will grab and bite us even when patting him or if just in range
Juli

No new photographs of Tikva - she is only still when sleeping!  She has so many of Pereg's  behaviours, although Pereg did not bite [and IT still does at times].  But her barks are similar to let me know who is coming down the path - apart from her hound HOWL when she hears the icecream van chimes.  Pereg and Lexi used to sing when they heard the chimes - Tikva is a hound and she HOWLS!

Even though I thought 6 months old was too young for her to be spayed - I would have preferred three months after her first season - it was done and I do not have to worry about that, especially is she is outside in the unfence yard on a 12m tether most of the day.  Just as Pereg and Lexi were.  I am not sure about her weight - at the surgery when Michal took us to be spayed she weighed 6 kg but Michal always weighs her here on my scales - Tikki has to be weighed for the Parkworm shot - Michal weighs herself, then hoiks Tikva up - deducts her weight - and she is 5.5 kg.

It is so much easier for me that Michal comes here than me trying to cope with taking Tikva to the surgery.  Michal adores her and Tikki adores Michal - and the call out charge is only a fraction more than a taxi to the surgery in town and then back home.  When Tikva was spayed Michal picked us up to take her to the surgery, I got a taxi home and Michal brought Tikva home later that afternoon, with all of three tiny staples, which she came to remove I think ten days later.

I know when Lexi and Pereg were spayed they had stitches, not staples, and I took their stitches out myself.  Ram had agreed to use stitches for Pereg as at that time I did not know how to remove staples.  But when Pereg was attacked by a stray dog and had to have staples in her shoulder, the then locum vet who came round to clean her shoulder and staple it, showed me how to remove staples with a tiny embroidery pair of scissors.  Michal came to remove Tikva's staples as she - Tikki - is very strong for her size and there is no way I could have coped myself.

Do I regret having brought Tikva home at only 3 weeks old?  I had no choice, did I.

But I can not change my avatar or my signature, much as I love little Tikva.

Just so skinny and I am not used to a skinny dog, especially as Pereg was overweight due to her epilepsy and medication.

So great to hear how you are both going, sounds like the two of you are doing very well. It is funny how the seem to pick up the ways of the one before even without meeting them to you both from us all here.

I use Picasa as my on-line storage area for my photographs and albums.

There are many others to choose from too.

I am not sure if this will work - rather odd perspective as I was above her and her legs are longer than they look - also the photo does not show how skinny she is, but here is Tikki Tikva just a few days short of her first birthday.

Yorkshire Geordie

She's delightful, the angle of view may make her legs look short but, in reality, makes her look cute.
She's going to be well pampered, you can tell.

She definitely has Doxie legs, wonky-looking knees and turned out feet, and everyone says she is cute, so I guess she must be.  Pampered?  Well if she was a cuddle pup then maybe...!  Although I did go a bit overboard with toys for her, but she plays with them all so I feel justified in buying them for her.  Just keep me away from eBay and AliExpress!

Let me see if this works - photo taken at the same time.

From ~450gm at 3 weeks to 5.5kg at a few days short of one year old - I do not think I have done too badly looking after my little Tikki Tikva.
Juli

If this works, it shows the actual shape of Tikva - skinny little monkey!

[I am having major problems with photos - TinyPic no longer works with Windows 10 and PhotoBucket is not very happy - I must find a way of posting photographs from Picassa without it taking days to go all round the bush.]

You do realise that she is an ickle girl?  Smaller than the ginger tom feral cat that lives under the back of my neighbour's bungalow.

She is very thin though but she is healthy and yes, those eyes...

No new photos - bad me.  The problem is that by the time I get  my camera out Tikva has done a disappearing act!

She was 18 months old on Tuesday - where did the time go?  She has stopped biting that sometimes hurt although she will still "attack" my knuckles at times, but even though Doxies have very strong jaws and teeth, especially raw fed ones like Tikva, she has not marked me or even really hurt.  It seems to be her way of playing silly boogers when she feels like it and is almost, for her, a term of endearment.  If that makes sense.  And me being old and having very thin skin, she has not so much as caused a tiny bruise.

Tikki does not have an ounce of fat on her - skinny as ever but with rock solid bones and muscles.  Her shoulder and hip muscles look like she is on steroids!  She definitely does not take after her very large and obese dam although she has more Doxie traits than Minpin ones.

I am not sure what she weighs - probably ~6 kilos.  Michal, who was her primary vet left the surgery to do more studying, so now Ram comes for her shots etc.  As the thing called Parkworm has now reached this area she has to have preventative shots every three months, and has to be weighed to get the correct dose.

I am still on seizure watch though - after Pereg any sudden movement or noise from Tikva and I think oh no, not again.  I miss Pereg so much but I adore this small thing called Tikki Tikva.

I will not change my avatar but I think my signature needs changing as far as tense goes.

I have to admit that life has been - well - not so good, and it is only because I have little Tikva to look after that has kept me going.

I live on an agricultural Moshav and have, as everyone does, mice.  But this year we have been over-run and I had to give in and get those evil sticky pads.

And then we had rats.  Not ginormous ones but RATS - and twice, when one of them got cotched on a sticky pad it bit me.  Hard.  And would not let go.  So I ended up at the hospital after I had smashed it onto the stone sink unit and I knew I needed a tetanus shot,   but it was late at night and the gates to the Moshav are closed every night so the ambulance had problems finding someone to open the gate.  Well the gate nearest to - oh I cannot explain.

So the driver went up the far end and found someone to open that gate and I ended up, eventually, at the ER.  Was dumped in a cubicle and just left.  Do Not Ask.

Nobody waiting and no nurse or doctor bothering - so bleeding everywhere I managed to slide off the front of the gurney, find my crutches, and plonked to the desk where the doctor was playing games on his computer.

Got screamed at, screamed back, ended sitting on the floor as I can only stand for a short while even on my crutches, had a tetanus shot and given some antibiotics - and because I had not been seen by a doctor the ambulance guys were still around.  Well, it was around 4am by then!

So they brought me home but I have no idea how they could get onto the Moshav, or how they got back out.

The second rat bite I ignored - once I had smashed it onto the stone floor.

And then we had a plague of huge black flies, which bit...

In other words, there have been a few nasty weeks.  The blessing was that when I did have to go to the ER after the first major rat bite, Tikva was in her night crate and just slept through it all.

And in case I have not said it before, I really do love that little puppy.

We know you love her they are just great family and give so much love. Sorry to hear the things that have happened to you, our thoughts/prayers are with you. We are in spring and almost into summer here so the flys are starting to come around but mice and rats are a winter problem but we have 3 cats and 2 dogs so they take careof most of those.
Juli

Tikki Tikva is - I do not know, but she is something special.  I miss my Pereg so much but I knew that I had to let her go.

TikTok Tikki Tikva is such special.  And I do love her so much.
Juli

I have finally changed my signature but I will not change my avatar.  Just as I will not change the wallpaper on my PC - the first photograph I ever took of my Lexi.

TIKVA IS 2 YEARS OLD TODAY!!!!

5.9 kg of devilment!

she looks a great little girl, how time flys
Juli

Tikva says thank you for your birthday wishes and yes, where on earth have the last two years gone?     It seems like only last week that I brought home the tiny scrap of three-week-old puppy who relied on me for everything, and I do not think I have done so badly!
