The first of five cider weekends

Starting with Saturday and Sunday the 27th and 28th of July, I've got five weekends selling my cider at the gate coming up. I've basically got ten days to shift one heck of a lot of cider. If the weather stays as it is, then I should be OK but inspite of what you farmers and growers are wishing for, please don't let it rain too much. I need as much as possible.
I sell my cider under what is known as a temporary events licence and I've recently found out that instead of the 12 days that I though I could have, I can actually have 12 licence applications but incorporating up to 21 days within any year.
I really could kick myself, because basically I've just wasted all of July waiting to use my days up in August. Next year, I'll have ten weekends over the busy holiday months of July and August.

Its too late to do anyhing about it now, so wish me luck and although its most unlikley, if you're passing our place, then please feel free to drop in.

I'm just about living my dream.
Yorkshire Geordie

Good luck, Bodger.
With this heat wave you shouldn't have too much problem - as long as the price is right that is.

Wish you all the best mate...you have worked long and hard enough to see your dream become a reality...and now its here..

Positive thoughts the weather WILL Last
CasperF

All the best Bodger, may many drink many

Just out of interest, how do you keep the juice in storage cool in these warm conditions?
bodger

Within a few hours of the apple juice being pressed, its put into bottles and pasteurised and then the lids tightened. The hot weather isn't a problem.
CasperF

Ah, yes I see. No need to worry about that then

What about the cider, I suppose having it in large barrels in the cool shed keeps it under control? I've heard about cider makers who have had a secondary fermentation take place sometimes.
bodger

This evening, Karen and I will be pumping cider into six poly barrels ready for the sale tomorrow. There will be quite a bit of tasting, blending and some sweetening going on.

What a terrible way to have to spend a warm summer's evening, however will you cope?

If folk have any sense, you'll sell loads, have a great day!
bodger

A pretty good day today. I sat in my own front yard and took 546 at two pounds a pint.

Way to go!!!! !
darkbrowneggs

Now that's what I call a good day's work
bodger

I've got a two day license, so I'm hoping for a repeat of the same today. It rained a fair bit during the night, so its fingers crossed that its got it out of the system and that we have some more nice weather today. It makes a heck of a difference.
sandrar

Brilliant..hope today is as good if not better.
kat_lewis

Hope today is even more productive
12Bore

Living the dream and making a few quid on the way, excellent mate
bodger

A much quieter day today, taking my total for the two days up to 801. Still, it money that's better in my pocket rather than someone else's.
Rena

More'n I make in two days at the farm  Nice for you!
Digindeep

eer! will we be able to still talk to you, when you've made your millions?

Well done
12Bore

Well done Bodger! A worthwhile weekend
bodger

If the remaining four weekends are similar or possibly better then that would give our little business some working capital. None of it would be profit but at least there would be some money in the account.
CasperF

Excellent news Bodger, that's a brilliant taking over a couple of days....must be some thirsty locals in your area.

Wonder how far some of them travelled to visit you?

Half a mile there, two miles back
bodger

We're lucky that we live on the coast in a busy holiday area. Most of them were visitors.
bodger

We're having another busy night, getting ready for another cider weekend. We've already got six poly barrels ready for the early rush
12Bore

That's breakfast sorted!
Digindeep

One barrel would be my breakfast, dinner and tea....zzzzzzzzz...see you next week

I'm sure all your hard work will come to fruition if last weekends takings are anything to go by...best of luck mucka...
bodger

Its been a good day today. A bit too windy for the punters to stay on the beach too long but nice enough for them to be out and about a bit.
bodger

A really big weekend approaching fast. I'll be selling on the Saturday, Sunday and the Monday.
Digindeep

Hope all goes as planned...only for the better.....

If the forecast weather is anything to go by...all should be well...

Double thank you for your good wishes DD
bodger

The warm weather that's been forecast for today hasn't as yet materialized. Its wet and windy, so rather than selling from the farmyard, it looks as though I'll have to set up in the cider shed.
colour it green

good luck! hope you get lots of sales
bodger

Slow but steady so far. I wont be retiring anytime soon.
CasperF

I think a good dose of   will get them buying!
bodger

We've had a fair bit of    but too much of the stuff and they stay on the beach
bodger

So far, sales wise the BH has been steady without being anything too spectacular. We've sold just over 40 gallons of cider with a full today still ahead of us.
The fact that we couldn't make as much apple juice as we would have wished has cost us many of hundreds of pounds in revenue. there were very few apples available last year, we ran out of it on the second day of the second weekend. We've been turning loads of people away but with the apple crop looking as they are, we should be fine next summer but we've certainly missed out this year.
bodger

We eventually sold 417 pints of cider over the three days, which was more or less what we expected. Next weekend will be the last one and then that's it, the summer season is finished. Things will be much quieter around here from now on in and I don't expect the coming weekend to be very busy. We should start pressing apples for next years sales in around three weeks time and that should carry on into December.
bodger

Its the last day of the summer weekends today. Yesterday we sold just a hundred pints and we'll be lucky if we sell anymore than that today. Its about what we expected, the holiday seasons over and its all money that we wouldn't have had other wise.
Now the real work starts in earnest. In a couple of weeks time we'll start pressing as we get ready to do it all over again next summer.
kat_lewis

Sounds like you have had a good summer
bodger

We're full of hope for next year.
CasperF

Congratulations on the rewards. This season has been kinder to apples and although they area tad smaller they have appeared in their hundreds!

Here's to next years tipple...
