The AA Man.

Does anyone remember when the 'AA man' (no, not alcoholics anonymous!!) used to ride a motor bike with sidecar, and salute all members, who proudly displayed a big yellow metal badge on their car?

I even remember the same chap coming to the house year after year, wearing his khaki coloured jodhpurs and black boots, to collect Dad's subs - sitting chatting over a cup of tea in the back kitchen. No anonymous computer generated demands in those days.

When I got my first car in the 1970s, I got a key to the AA phoneboxes. Don't remember having to use one though, and I don't actually remember when they were phased out.

Saw one a while back and I believe it is actually now listed. Also if you look around you see on the odd occasion, RAC Road Signs that have been left on walls from years ago.

The chap with the motorcycle and sidecar that I can recall, sported a superb handlebar moustache.

Yes i remember it well, i used to ask my dad why are we in the A.A.?  his reply "Ah well just in case, " he never went any further than about 10 miles in these days, usually only about 5 !! the nearest big city was 28miles away and required the planing of a military operation ! a spare gallon of petrol , a bottle of water, a can of oil, a rope , a torch (even in daylight!) and a pencil + a bit paper !!!! why?   "just in case son, just in case" i honestly cant remember him ever using any of them , but i suppose Baden Powell taught him well "just in case"!!
When the A.A. man saluted  us we had to sit up straight and wave,  i still have my dads old car badge .

I guess you never would but if it's the real old one with the number stamped on the bottom, put it on e-bay and stand back.
