Spotted Flycatcher?

We have a pair of these nesting in our guttering - how on earth they stay dry I'll never know.

After many days of peering at them we think they are Spotted Flycatchers?

I'm not sure Mo. I don't think I've ever seen one in the flesh but I think the one's that I've seen in pictures are black and white.

No, you're right, its the pied fly catcher that I'm confusing it with.

Yorkshire Geordie

That's not too dissimilar to the one Mrs YG and I spotted yesterday.
We've searched with Google and decided that although it's cap is reddy-brown ours may well be a blackcap.

I agree that yours would seem to be a flycatcher - but I'm not really an ornithologist.

That's the female of the species Mart.

Why didn't I think to look online?    Been poring over bird books - more fun that way though? For a while we thought it might be some kind of warbler.

The only black and whites we have are Pied Wagtails - hours of fun but no good photo to share.
