Small, and I mean small, oak barrels

Anyone know where I could get one?  I'm notlooking at anything bigger than a few pints.  After this years cider making I would like to 'clarify' some and would like to age it for a few years.

Now that is a good idea     ... ... ... after reading this I fancy ageing some of my home-made Mead in Oak casks/barrels.

A quick google around has thrown up these:  http://www.woodbarrels.co.uk/sectionindex.php but they are a bit too pricey for me.

No.

Hope that helps mate.

The craft cider makers get their barrels from either the whisky or the rum industry but I'm yet to see a really small one. The smallest ones that I've seen have contained lime pickle. It maybe worth you contacting your local Indian restaurants because thats the only place that I've seen them.

And me Gareth....

I did also think of whether using a more conventional container and putting a lump of oak into it, but a barrel would be nicer

A few years (or more) I was looking for wooden barrels, found a guy on ebay who was importing them from somewhere. Probably not a lot of use to you though, as I guess you've already looked at ebay.
I seem to recall them being reletively expensive though.

You can buy a 2 litre wooden keg with stand and medium char for $29.00 here.  Don't know how to convert the money and don't know if there are any restrictions on stuff like this.

If you use something like this you kinda need to watch the time and not age it too long or you might get a surprise since the surface area to volume pretty high.  I like to char chips myself and have also made charred oak tea that works surprisingly well.
