I have never done it but have seen plenty of local flower shows and fetes. The winners always have green leaves and flowers!!! Sorry I cant help but good luck! Im sure you will  win. Love Lizzie

Lucky I had some nice dead ones to put in.

I wondered about the pot and stuff like that
Rare one

usually show our pot plants in the one they are planted in as they judge the plant not the recepticle. We just picked up tips from various local shows and took it from there. Good luck. just go for it and enjoy.
mogs

contact the local shows you want to do, to find out what they want.

ie, 7 inch pot, largest bloom in certain size pot, cut flowers, colours, etc etc.
chickenstu

cheers all- I shall let you know how it goes

12 plants entered in the class I entered.

and I got first and second.

I am dead chuffed- my late Grandad who got me into gardening would be very pleased.

The winner was one I grew from a cutting last year

Well done Stu - it's nice that you thought of your Grandad when you won
lizzie44

Told you you would win!!! Well done - could we have a photo of the winning entry please?? Love Lizzie
mogs

absolutely, bdooly good stuff. great news........so are you bitten by the bug now?....
chickenstu

Thanks for all your lovely comments.

I have just changed my computer for a laptop- and I have not got my head around uploading photos yet.

I had crazy thoughts about a heated greenhouse- but I think its best I stick to 30 odd in the house- I can keep more of an eye on them then.

If anyone fancies any plants let me know- I normally have to many cuttings on the go
chickenstu

here are the my winning plants- sorry if I am boring folk- but it was first time showing- and I don't win much- apart from Best Shrek Look a Like 2009
lizzie44

Lovely Chickenstu. I actually prefer the 2nd prize winner myself. I prefer the colour and flower size. My strepto is looking good - can i ask should i feed it with liquid tomato feed now?. It has flowered since May and is starting to flag.. Love Lizzie
chickenstu

The second one is Falling stars.

Feed them weekly from march to october-with a tenth of what the manufactures recommendations with the tom feed.

If its starting to flag- take two leaf cuttings just in case (cut a leaf off at the base and stick it in a glass of water)
Grandma Bodger

lovely pics Chickenstu dont know much about them was given one this year which has just finished flowering so was glad to see your advice
MrsWW

They are beautiful - such lovely colours - keep up the good work

Other peoples success is never boring Stu.
It's good to hear how our cyber mates do.
Keep it up and keep telling us.
chickenstu

Cheers- just more one thing re watering. When feeding them- give them a tiny amount of water into the top of the pot.

But for generally watering let them dry right out- then stand the pot in a tray of water for a while till the pot is damp.

And no full sun- a East or West aspect is best
Jim

well done
chickenstu

Dibleys (the top growers of streps in the UK) catalogue arrived today- could be an expensive day
