Royal Guernsey Agricultural & Horticultural Society Show

Just back from the annual RGA poultry show where we did alright. It was a fairly well attended and entered show - 3 big aisles like this:

First up a few of the stand out birds for my money and a little something for Bodger. This beauty cleaned up; best in show, best utility and various other awards....

sticking with the theme of classic utility breeds I think I could see a few of these gorgeous giant australorps cruising around the orchard....

there were also a few nice cuckoo marans on show....

I'm not sure I'm gonna talk the missus round on turkeys anytime soon though but there were 3 gorgeous ones
[

and also some lovely ducks. We're moving into ducks next year, touch wood, so it was good to see some really nice birds in the varieties we're looking at.

As for our own birds.....

well we got our first rosette! 5 firsts and a second from our 6 birds (and the second was the second bird of a trio losing to its partner) so we did pretty well in our classes but to be honest our classes were not the most competitive in that we were the only entries in some of them.

SLW's
Our best pullet. We had one chick this year that was borderline suicidal in everything we did and hence earned the name "sheep", as this is Sheep's classier bigger sister we named her "Alpaca"

and a young cock - our best cock is in the middle of a poorly timed moult

our pair of silver duckwing welsummers

I missed getting a photo of the cock so here he is in his pre-show bath....

Lastly we entered one of our welsummer wyandotte crosses in the any first cross class and to our surprise she won. The pullets have turned out to be rather pretty birds (but the cocks are 'orrible looking)....

Here's Alpaca with her trophy.....

Great pictures  I can't speak to you using your forum name, so what's your first name ? Wait until my birds have moulted through, I'll post some pictures of my LS !  I quite like the idea of some of my birds being on Guernsey and I'd be happy to post some hatching eggs to you next summer.

I'm Wayne, Tai Haku is a Japanese cherry variety which happens to sound vaguely cool and be my favourite tree hence its been my username online for ages.

I must confess, having always been a bit shy of the idea of predominantly white chickens for fear of them looking muddy if the weather turns, every time I've seen your light sussex I've grown a little bit keener on having some so we may well take you up on that kind offer next year.
