rough guide to comercial feed

Poultry food is graded by protein levels and other things it contains.

To start with, Chick Crumbs are formulated to feed chicks of course, so needs to be a higher level of protein for growth, unless it's organic, it will probably contain medication to stop chicks from getting Coccidiosis (acs).

With chickens, Chick crumbs are fed to birds under a month old.

At about a month old, your growing chicks need extra protein so they move on to a grower pellet or meal, and are fed this mixture to the age of 18 weeks old.Rearing pellets is just a different name for the same product.

At 18 weeks old, pullets are maturing faster and need different minerals like calcium, they don't need as much protein so the food (layers mash/pellets) are formulated.

Remember, if your feeding poultry you really need to feed the correct food at the correct times, always read the labels that come with the bags to see if this food is suitable for the purpose. Don't feed layers the chick or growers as this contains the acs which can pass through to the eggs.

Thanks for this - soon time to move my hubbards over to growers. Do you mix the crumb and the growers pellets at the beginning to get them used to it?
