Roman Villa?

The only thing that I've ever found in our garden and fields has been scrap iron and the occasional old horse shoe.

I love hearing about this sort of stuff don't you ?
Christine

They built to last those Romans didn't they?

What a great find BUT what a mess in your back yard that you can't use any more

Oh I don't know about that, if it was my back garden I'd already have a turn style fitted  and I'd be coining the money in.

Brilliant find

I particularly liked the bit about the stone planter which the guy had been planting geraniums in turning out to be a Roman child's coffin !!

If you're fascinated by history try getting hold of 'The Common Stream' by Rowland Parker.  It's about Foxton in Cambridgshire, where remains of a Roman Villa were found, and it traces the history of the village from Roman times through the Black Death and civil war up to relatively modern times. The common stream being the water supply which encouraged settlements to keep being rebuilt there.

It's one of those books that I used to keep going back to - then I lent it someone and never got it back.

Cheap enough to replace Trish, I think I'll get Kaz to order me a copy. She does all the techie stuff in the house.

Y'know I think I'll order another one. I know my grandaughter would enjoy it.
