Poor old GSD had a couple of bad fits this morning - called the vet had him put down at home - good long life, marvelous gentle giant, OH is having to dig a very big hole,  conundrums signature say's it all.

RIP my good friend.

Heartfelt condolences to you :sad10:

My thoughts are with you.  Remember the good times and you will smile through the tears of loss.

My deepest sympathy. My GSD was put to sleep a couple of months ago, so I understand. Many people here said lovely things at the time which helped a lot. If you wish you can read them here:

So sorry to hear your news.

You will never forget the happy times that you had with him.

Here is what Conundrum has as her signature: A good dog never dies, he always stays, he walks besides you on crisp autumn days when frost is on the fields and winter's drawing near, his head within our hand in his old way.

A sad time . My condolences

So sorry to hear of your loss.

So sorry to hear of your girl. I love GSD's and have had a couple of beauty's...both now gone to the bridge...hard times. but the memories will help.

we cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."

Well thanks for your kind thoughts much appreciated, that's the price we pay "a little pain and sadness for 13 years of unconditional love and loyalty" I still recon a good dog is the best deal on earth, thanks again friends. :-?

Just realised yours was a boy......your post had me thinking of my girls....sorry about that.

You may find, as I have, that he'll come back to visit you a few times before he finally leaves. His way of checking that you're ok.

That is interesting Lloyd. Care to elaborate?

I took some photographs of our two young dogs in the garden in April to send off to the lady that we bought them from. They are taken with the house and in particular the patio doors in the background.

There is an image of a yellow dog sat looking out of the patio doors. The only yellow dog we owned was put to sleep last November.
Maybe a trick of the light but......

I think putting it into words would make it seem daft, whereas my feeling of what has happened is so strong, and I know it to be true. so lets just say that he's been back a couple of times in a very subtle unobtrusive way to check up on me and also to make sure I knew he'd visited, and that he was ok. They were lovely and thought provoking occasions, both within a month of his passing, and both left me with a smile as well as a tear.

Sorry to hear of your loss,

Commiserations to you and yours greenman, think of the good times, the funny things he done, and the times you thought - i'm gonna kill him.. but make you smile now.
My thoughts are with you.

Sorry to hear your sad news. Memories are precious and time is a healer, but a faithful friend is always in your heart. x

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Spooky thing, my niece just e-mailed to tell me that Katie her choc lab had been put to sleep on Saturday, Katie and my dog were play mates for about 4 years they lived next door then moved to Spain about 7 years ago, so we reckon they are having a great time charging around.
