Poultry carrier...

I've got a fair few of those plastic packing boxes big companies use to move stock.. Drilled a load of holes all the way round and they're stackable... Ask nicely at your local department store (or in my case Carphone Warehouse)

Very handy and easy to clean.

Our member Taffy is the one that we need to answer this one, he's made some really good ones.

Com'on Guys,

I am bored and need a new little woodworking project. Give me a few details of a suitable Poultry carrier, and I will make one as a photo "How to." and then offer it up as a prize for an OTG monthly competiton.
kaz

I'll make sure that they get that sorted Gareth

Here's the 2 sorts I've mad the varnished one is 18" x 18" x 8" but I found that for my birds which are longer the sickles get damaged so I'm slowly converting to the other one that needs varnishing yet which is 18" x 24" x 6" wide I  find the birds sit tighter in these and don't move about as much although I know chickenstu has made them the dimensions of the second one except for the fact his are a bit wider prob 8" I think

Whats wrong with a cat box? and arn't those carriers ideal for your game type birds, your average pekin would roll around on the bottom, I suppose it all depends what style of bird you keep?

I agree Greenman but the brief was for a slanted side opening one

Thanks whipcord, just thought it would save someone worrying about special chicken carriers but it is really good to know how the long necks & legs are transported for shows, do they travel back to back then , Now I would like to see one of those boxes loaded for a show.

Here you go mate.

This is for a big bird, 50 cms high, 50 cms long and 25 cms deep.

For a medium bird reduce to 40 cms and 20 cms and make it proportionally smaller for a bantam.

Are they alright in cat boxes then?  Either that or I'll have to use a suitcase  :q28:

Normal chickens are fine in a cat box, or an ordinary cardboard box for that matter if it's just to get them home. Those boxes are designed to carry the very upright long necked long legged Game cock type of bird, not my personal cup of tea but blokes seem to fancy them. As kaz says a bit prehistoric looking, dinosaur birds. :q28:
