Popping time for Milly.

We've got Milly the GOS in the pig sty ready to have her second litter of piglets. It really will be a case of fingers crossed. If you recall, her last litter of 13 were really good ones by a pedigree Welsh boar but that she had them so quickly, that she ripped herself quite badly.
I put the lamp into position yesterday and by my calculations, she's due on or around the twenty fourth of this month. I'm just hoping that things go more steadily this time and that we don't have a repeat.
This will be Matty, the boar we bought from Matlock's first litter .
Toddy

I hope it all goes well, and that she's fine and the litter's a good one.

Having had babies, I have to say that the thought of thirteen one after t'other for a first birth is a nightmare scenario.

Hope all goes well

Fingers crossed, good luck Milly!

All the besthope it is a good one

I put the heat lamp on for her and her future arrivals last night, she's getting quite restless and uncomfortable.
I think it will be a few more days yet before she has them but she looks as though she's definitely getting ready and what's more, she's quite a size. Milly had her piglets very quickly last time, which is why I think she ripped herself so badly. I hope she takes her time second time around.

The big difference between waiting for Milly the Gloucester Old spot to have her piglets and waiting for our children to be born, is that with the kids, at least I didn't have to keep going out into the rain every half an hour to see if anything was happening.
If I've got my dates correct, then Milly is due to pop today, she's certainly looking restless and uncomfortable but then, you know what they say about a watched kettle never boiling?
Toddy

Have you thought of one of those pir camera things ? They can be bought very reasonably these days

I thought they came later?

A very heavily pregnant Milly this morning but we still don't have any piglets to report. She was very anxious to get her grub, no signs of morning sickness here then. If she doesn't farrow around now time, then that might mean that she took three weeks later than I thought, which means that she'll be even more 'mahusive' than she is when she finally has them. Talk about a watched kettle eh?
hughesy

Has she got milk? I've found it's the best way to see if farrowing is imminent.
bodger

Well that Ruddy pig has just ripped the bdooly gate of that I've always used asa farrowing rail inside the sty. I'm about to strart some remedial work on it.
bodger

Gate fixed.    I thought as much, I've just checked her and she's got milk on board.
bodger

I'm not so sure that I like this being a dad again malarkey! She's lying down and the contractions have started.
Toddy

Cannae even give her gas and air
I hope it all goes well Bodger, and she has an easier time than last.

and we'll be checking in for updates.

Good luck

Here's an update for you Sandrar. We have the first one out !

I've taken a picture but I wont be able to post any until a new disc arrives from the camera company.
sandrar

Way to go       Tell her to take it steady but to be done before dark. Can't wait for the photos
bodger

Two piglets now which have both gone straight to the milk bar.

Our grown up piglets came to see us last week and one of them has jiggered up our computer so that we can't down load photos. I'm not techno savvy but they've all denied culpability. Karens had to send for a disc from Panasonic.
sandrar

ummm we've got two like that ...frustrating aren't they but at the same time can't manage without them
bodger

Gosh ! They're almost running out of her, there's six of em now !
sandrar

bodger

Ten plus a still born.
bodger

There's at least a dozen live ones. I've just phoned chickenfeed up and thanks to her advice, I've been out to the piglets and trimmed a long trailing umbilical cord on one of them with a sharp pair of scissors. We dipped the end of  the cord in some iodine. The lights are off now and we'll leave her to it and see what the morning brings.

Twelve piglets between five and seven, I think that was pretty quick work.
Yorkshire Geordie

Congratulations to mother and offspring.
Also - well done to the Midhusband.

Fantastic result! You'll be sleeping light tonight, wondering how they'll be by morning!
Toddy

Good on Millie I hope the morning finds them all well and thriving.

I was looking for fabric earlier….and found this, and thought of you

Good result, see what the morning brings

We've ended up with eleven nice healthy piglets. We've lost two. One was definitely still born and the second one was either squashed or still born too.

I'm well pleased.
sandrar

That's really good. Well done all. Looking forward to the photos

I haven't had a close look at the piglets as yet but this evening, a friend clocked the piglet top left of the photo. I hadn't noticed until she pointed it out and that it has what looks to be a completely black hind leg. At this stage, I don't know whether its a boar or a sow but its certainly an unusual colour. Lets hope that it turns out to be a keeper and a good one at that. He or she should certainly be noticeable.
horace

Where is the photo
bodger

Oops.    On this one.
