Pig puberty

Last year I had two Oxford Sandy & Black  gilts year and they were a dream to look after really. My suppliers had a small litter this year of 3 boys & a girl but also has middle white x large black and pure large black available.

This years will again be slaughtered at about 6 months & Iím just wondering if I end up with a boy and girl is the boar likely to start getting frisky by then or is that too early, I donít want to get chased out of the paddock or have meat tainted by his hormones kicking in? I recall Chicken feed said in another thread 'A cautionary tale' that the boys would be on the hook before that, but as a real novice I could do with some advice, everything I read says something different about the sexual maturity.  I donít want the bother/cost of castration so Iím just wondering whether to plump for the OSB gilt and pair her with a gilt from the large black litter. Is that something that would work or would it stress them out bunking with a stranger so soon after leaving mum? Maybe two Large Black gilts would be the answer.  What are your thoughts piggy contributors?

Best advice would be to have either 2 boars or 2 gilts
If you mix diff breeds straight away they'll have an initial tiff establish who is boss pig and then be best friends lol thats pigs!

Not had a problem with pig taint but we've never had the boars running with gilts The last boar that we sent in was at least nine months old. He had the tackle but hadn't had the chance to use it.

We keep ours together as a litter until they're ready to go then send usualy the boars off first. We have seen the occasional attempt at a bit of brother/sister impropriety but it's never been a problem and we've never experienced any taint in the boar meat. We had a litter just before xmas that we'd seen some activity in so we sent the gilts off first just in case but even with the boars being a bit older there's been no problem.
