Our first cider sale of the season.

On Saturday we're going to this place for our first cider sale of the season.

http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/l...nformation/article-1355783200145/

The trust are running a small taste of the sea event and some how, cider fits the bill.   I'll be taking 280 pints of Over the Gate cider and with the weather as it is, I should have a good chance of shifting most of it.

I'll be selling my wares from around noon into the early evening. My stand will actually be on the beach and the trust have kindly provided me with a table and a small gazebo so that I don't catch too many rays

Needless to say, I'm really looking forward to the event and hopefully, as well as a bit of cash, it will bring quite a bit of publicity for Morfa Nefyn Orchard.

This is the pub that you can only get to by walking across a beautiful golden beach. From here on in, I'll be selling our cider and apple juice from our farm gate on Saturdays and Sundays for the next ten weekends through out the summer.

Have a look at this. Karen and I have already walked across to the TY Coch three times this summer. The round trip is just under two miles and its a beautiful walk and well worth the effort.

I so wish I was closer or that the "family courier" was still available as I'd love to try some of your cider.

Family courier? We hardly see or hear from the little beggar Teri! We're beginning to think that he might have a new family.

Congratulations on your venture Bodger - should give you some worthy advertising with the National Trust. Shame it's just a bit too far for me to drive to (and enjoy several pints!)

Have a great day tomorrow.
bodger

We've just loaded the first van full for tomorrow. It will take two trips to get everything down there.
bodger

The trip was less than a mile and the pitch was free, so yes the journey was worth it.
On the day, there were hundreds of people on the beach drinking and eating but most of the thousands of pounds spent on the day were spent on produce from the pub.
Drink wise, cold lager and sweetened fizzy cider was the order of the day. Drinking craft still cider is a minority sport and our takings were commensurate with that.
We start our cider weekends in the farmyard next weekend, when we usually do really well. What we've realised, is that if people visit a farm where cider is made traditionally, then they're likely to buy it knowing that its how cider should be but that youngsters on a beach, in the sun are looking for a totally different product.
All in all, it was a pleasurable and informative experience and we learned from it. This season, we may send some of our cider away in bulk to a company that bottles cider for some of the bigger boys. We can and do bottle our own still cider but what we can't do, is to carbonate it. if some of our customers want sweet carbonated cider, then they can have it. Its not real cider of course but it will be their loss and hopefully, our gain.
Digindeep

As you say at least it was an experience and in that respect you gained from it.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained, except the experience of course.

I bought some - and very nice it is too

Bodger, that dentally challenged character you were speaking to as we were leaving had been sent down by the guys on the Nefyn brewery stall to check that you were really local !!!
bodger

I doubt it, because they know me very well. Its more than likely that they sent him down to me to get rid of him. He was absolutely rat arsed and hung around like a bad smell. He was a real pain.
Seabird

That figures! We'd found a seat next to their stand and he was hanging round there all the time till he was sent on a fool's errand down to you.
CasperF

Did he get high on your supply?!
bodger

He did buy a couple of pints but was well on the way by the time he got to me. The brewery people know him well because they have the misfortune to have their premises next door to his.

Glad it went well, you (and the cider) deserve success!
bodger

We have our first weekend selling cider from home tomorrow. I have a few more last minute jobs to get done today to be ready.
We've lashed out on a small two metre by two metre marquee and that's now sitting proudly at the top of the driveway. I think it looks really good. I've made a bar by setting some planks on two old 55 gallon oak barrels and that also  looks in keeping with the atmosphere that I'm trying to create.
I've got a few more posters to deliver to the local caravan sites this morning and then in the evening, we'll be playing with where and how to hang the banners.
I'm hopeful of a reasonable weekend, the rain is due to stop, which is great but the weather doesn't look as though its going so good that the punters are to be tied to the beaches. Red hot weather and torrential rain isn't good for sales, somewhere in between is what we need.
bodger

Stop and rest a while.

Looking good
Border

Looks good mate.

Hope you have some successful weekends ahead of you.

A couple of large pots of flowers just to add a little colour, might be a good idea.

Hmmm, cider and a pot to pi55 in?
Border

Woolybacks and cider....then flower pots might end up full of pisss.
bodger

We did quite a bit better yesterday than we did last Saturday down on the beach. Hopefully, today we'll tick over nicely.

Cider weekend number two starts in just under four hours time. The weather forecast is looking rather lousy and I'm not expecting much but some money is better than no money.
Rena

".... some money is better than no money...."

Never a truer statement. As for patronage....one just never knows
