Oil Lamps

Now that Winter is begining to make it's presence felt and the mornings are still dark when I slide out from under the covers, I often light an Oil lamp and eat breakfast by it's light. I've done this for years now.
Strange I know, when I could just flick a switch and have bright, clean illumination without the need for wick trimming.
I think this habit has it's roots during the "Winter of discontent" '78-'79 when the warmest part of our house was at the top of the oil lamps we burnt for lighting.

I wondered if there are other Lamp-lights out there?

I don't have any lamps to light now but have many happy memories as a child of having only oil lamps and candles at home .there was always a cosy comforting feeling as I remember

No lamps here but have to get fire in range going for hot food/drinks

We have some oil lamps and use them when there is a power cut

No oil lamps, but we regularly sit by candle light, very relaxing.

We have lamps and candles, but save them for power outages. I love the glow from them and every now and again find myself 'wanting' a power out just so I can justify using them!      ('course, power isn't the only thing that goes...the water too! haven't figured out an answer for that one, so thankfully power outs are few and far between these days!  they used to be quite common)

I have one that I got off freecycle.  Its all glass with the base being, I think for paraffin.  John wont let me use it but Im sure its usable.

If you pay your bill, they come and reconnect it.

We have a couple of kero hurricane lamps here

we have a few and use them regularly - often out of necessity when the power goes off - we use paraffin in them as its cheap.  we also use the top of our wood burner for keeping the kettle on simmer point, as a slow cooker and of course as a toaster - we are probably just odd but it does save us a fortune
