Number of posts per page

If I've counted right, there are only 10 posts per page. Thats not a lot really especially when some topics can be pages long.

It's quite time consuming going through so many pages, especially when you are trying to catch up on some reading.

Another forum has 20 posts per page, that works really well.

Is this forum capable of that do you know. It would make for much better reading!

Just an idea! I know it's a bit late for me at 1am in the morning but it's so bloomin' hot and humid I can't sleep!

It doesn't help that the OH is creating his own small earthquakes with his snoring!  rolleyes.gif
kaz

I'll look into it
NZPOME

You're marvellous!    :-)

It's set to 20 now - let me know what you think of it

Trouble with 20 posts per page NZ (and you will notice this) is that for us on dial up if a few of the posts on a page have photos in them you will be waiting for ever to view them and you can forget even visiting the photo section of the forum :q11:

cheers, paul
kaz

I'll take it down to 15 per page and see if that makes a difference CT.
NZPOME

But I'm on dial up too  and sometimes I get down to 38 kbps, it's the changing of the page that takes the time to load especially with photos. And NZ dial up is the pits I can assure you rolleyes.gif

I have to stop looking at pages because of the download time, which means I don't get to follow as much as I would like. So in the end I have to give up!

I've spent more time on here the last few days because I've found it a lot better.

vBulletin forum software allows the user to select (up to 40, I think) the number of posts/page. Can phpBB do that?

If not, the more postings/page the better for me.

kaz

How's 15 per page NZP?
NZPOME

Hi Kaz, haven't had chance for a proper look yet, I'll let you know!

It's a good compromise though.

RE the download of pics, they'll take the same amount of time to load regardless of the number of pages won't they? Just an observation from the other forum I mentioned. With less posts on a page, more page changes more download time???

this is very true NZ but if you just want to check out the last couple of posts on a topic you've been watching then do you really want to wait 20mins to download 17 pictures that you've already seen? when you could just download 7 in less than half the time and as far as speeds go I'm lucky to see 31.2 :-?  if you have broadband speeds then I'm sure 40 pages is just peachy, specially if your just typing but anything with piccies in you can forget it :sad11:
NZPOME

I don't get to see any of the pics anyway unfortunately, especially if there are loads. They all take too long for me. I just read the text and thats it.  :sad11:

shame NZ cos dunks chrissy bash, storms blackberry line (or was it bluebell), bobgers boys, bears landscapes, ratty's fishing exploits and leonies everything were well worth the wait. (even at 28.8)

cheers, paul

Hell I bet they were too! Darn it! Thats the pitfalls of living on your dream bit of land out in the boondocks in a 3rd world country!  ::

Sing-along now

One day Broadband will come
One day Broadband will come
And the photos will no longer be slow
As fast as a racehorse we'll go

Some day when BB is here
We'lll find we love it anew
NZPomes son will sing
Once again the phone shall ring
Someday when Broadband comes through!

Any response to this?

Sorry Arian, I missed your post first time around.

There doesn't seem to be a limit to the number of posts per page - I've just tried 40 and it didn't tell me it couldn't do it :-)

However the reasons that the others on this post have voiced about download times seems to suggest that a lower number of posts per page is more practical. We've gone up from 10 to 20 and are now at 15 - how is it for everyone?
NZPOME

Better than 10!

Thanks.

I think the big point is that each member can select the number of posts on their page, rather than the forum administrator setting the number. Maybe phpBB doesn't allow that?

Selfishly, I'd like more posts/page, but while 10 is too few, 15 or 20 seems a reasonable compromise. Of the two, I vote for 20   :-) .

I'll find out about individual selection.

You are a sweetheart!

I like having more posts per page well done
kaz

I've checked and the posts can only be set by admin and not individuals :sad11:
