Now is not the time . . .

to notice that the turners haven't been plugged in.

By some miracle one has hatched, probably one that had been under a broody, and I'm pretty sure it's a cross as it's white rather than pale lemon.

No more chances this time as no more cockerel.

Bodger, how much for a dozen LS hatching eggs please?

eta While on the subject of hatching eggs, anyone got any silkie eggs for sale?
bodger

I charge 3.00 a dozen plus carriage.

argh decisions!
ok  cheque or paypal?
lol that didn't take as long as I thought it would.

I've realised the chick is almost certainly white because it has a melanin diluter, i.e. it's a coro. It might be a hen though, and by the time I know for sure, we'll be the wrong side of midsummer for easy chick raising. There's no guarantee I'll find a nice cockerel locally either, so eggs it is!!

(Luckily one of the broodies on eggs had just hatched one when this one hatched, so it's got a mum and sibling.   )

Hi Bodger, I would like to buy some of your Light Sussex eggs if you have any.
If possible 2 dozen would be great.   If not what you can spare.
Please let me know and how to pay you, etc.

Ooh! Ooh! Ooh! All is not lost!
I left the incubator running and plugged in the turners (albeit after the horse had bolted), 'just in case', especially as I had a feeling that the one that hatched was early. I checked on the incy as I got up this morning, still nothing, I thought, so went out and checked on the chicks with the broody. Bit of a problem there, although she appeared to be still sitting on the eggs, when she got off to take the chicks to food, I discovered they were stone cold! (A bit like the incy really; looked like it was working but it wasn't!) So, I brought the eggs up to the house and candled them for signs of life. Two clears and one very dodgy (swishy) looking, one very dark and large air space, but all the rest have clearly visible veins, so I've stuck them all in the incy. And as I opened the incy I heard cheeping! At least three more have pipped, and being aware of the probability of malpositioning, due to lack of turning (one had already just pipped then died at the same time that the 'one and only' hatched) if they haven't made any more progress by tonight, I will help them out.

Right you two. The renegade Ancona cockerel has been captured and if you can wait a couple of weeks, I should be able to supply some LS eggs that are 100% pure.

Yep, no problem Bodger. Just let me know when their ready.

Half a dozen have made it out, and look good, so I've probably got a replacement cockerel in there, but the hens aren't getting any younger, and with only 7 each of coro and LS, a few more wouldn't go amiss. If I get inundated in the next few days I might need to cancel, but I've only had one more hatch today, so I think that's the lot. :(
On the plus side, one of the silkies has hatched.   Fingers crossed, the rest will hatch in the next couple of days.

That's not a problem. Just let me know if and when you're ready.. Good luck with those chicks.
