Looks pretty good for a compact camera

I'd be a bit wary, two people I know have had optios and both have died just out of warranty
Kirbs

Thanks both.
Any other recommendations peeps then please or I may well have to buy the above, shower you all with pics for a year until said camera pops its clogs
OR any of you photo buffs got an old but trusted one I could buy off you maybe, prehaps, pretty please

If you can find one in your price range I'd suggest a Canon Ixus, even my ancient Ixus II still takes pictures better than todays budget point and shoots! Something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/canon-ixus-...3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A4|39%3A1|72%3A1690|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A200 would be my choice even up to the price of the new Optio (already have an Ixus 75 as the camera I use for places I want to be discrete with my picture shoting and the dSLR would be too obvious, its a cracking little camera)

OK dt on the case Thank you

Hi ya Kirbs..
I echo dtalbot's comments canon ixus range very good and always as the way with camera's in my experience you get what you pay for...another possible suggestion is the Panasonic Lumix range..as with most things panasonic the electronics are sound and if you are willing to spend a bit more you can pick one up with the leica optics on,a mate of mine just spent a load of money on an LX 3 which is basically a leica d-lux 4 in a panasonic body...but like i say that was expensive but there are others that are much cheaper with the leica optics..
 Good Luck!!!!

Yep, dad has a lumix DCM LX2 and it is a good camera with excellent zoom. The slight downside is its rather bigger than the Ixus. Depends how you use the camera really, the Ixus is my choice as its small and light enough to slip into any pocket as an always with me camera, as any photographer will tell you the best picture ops always come up when you haven't got a camera, so that problem is solved! The lumix is a bit too big for that but not ig in the grand scheme of things, fine for taking when you out to take pictures.
