NB

Neither Karen or I have a clue what the note at the top of the forum page is about. As in 'Save the forum from closing with Crowd Funding'.
Gareth

You need to get up to speed because OTG could disappear in June when Mff shuts down for good.

Have a look at the bottom of the page.  It now says

Create your own free forum | Buy a domain to use with your forum

Oh, and this "MyFreeForums" wants 10,000 or else...

"The aim is to raise 10,000 for the initial transfer, and then work off a very low cost subscription model to help us keep on running the service to the standard members have come to expect of us over the years.

If we fail in this target we will have to close down, but forums that have donated or have paid for advert free will get a free forum export."

Blackmail anyone?

Having been with them for over ten years, you'd have thought they would have informed us directly.
We've been away this week and I hadn't picked up Gareths post of the 21st.

For years we paid them forty quid a year to avoid the pop up adverts, we'll have to look into this. As well as the good friends we've made on OTG, as a family the forum also contains over ten years of personal memories.

DON'T WORRY FOLKS, THERE'S FAR TOO MANY MEMORIES AND TOO MUCH INFORMATION ON OTG TO LET IT DISAPPEAR. We'll sort it somehow.

Forty quid a year but now they are asking for ten thousand pounds to keep going?

Sorry, but I think you are being conned, and the fact that you did not know about the note at the top of the forum [or the line at the bottom of each page, says just one thing.

And no, that stink is not my puppy farting.  It smells like a gimmee gimmee or else hack.  How else can someone put headings and footings onto your site if it has not been hacked?

It is up to you.  I will be only too happy to contribute to YOU to keep OTG going, but no way will I give a farthing to Crowd Funding, especially as it is impossible to contact the Free Forum.

Well someone can, and obviously has done.

Ten thousand pounds sterline?  Or lose your wonderful site?
bodger

That's not directed at us as individuals, its directed at a whole community of forums. Nothing stinks, we'll sort it. We know the people who own the company and we realise that nothing lasts forever and that  now is not the time to make a mountain out of a molehill. We'll let you know if and when that time ever happens.

We don't know what it is as yet but there's talk of some sort of rescue package for the company.[/b]

Any further news about what is going on?
Jaycee

Looks like it's carrying on as normal in partnership with Tapatalk.

Yes. Service as normal as far as we know. Now all we need is for people to chip in and make this place a little busier.

Have folks noticed the new banner at the top of the page ? Hopefully it means that the forum will be OK and that it will be business as usual in the future,
Mo

Juli

I think that new banner has been up for a couple of days now, and read details on the Free Forum site.

I still do not understand how they can put banners on the top of your forum but they could and they have done.

However, I am still prepared to support OTG financially itself, by maybe a yearly subscription if that would help?  I do this with the few fora that I use, even if they do not ask for a subscription.  I just feel that they, and you of course, give me so much that I want to give back something in return.
