My Oven

blew up last night and tripped out the whole house.  House now OK but oven is dead.  Not impressed as will be hard pushed to afford a new one at this time of year
Seabird

Oh No!!!  How will you get round that?

That's why I've resisted getting rid of the Baby Belling I inherited...it's in the loft just in case... would have to chop a turkey into pieces to get it in mind.

Doesn't everything happen at the wrong time. The roof's leaking badly in our shop and it needs a new one - landlord reckons they'll need us out of the shop for around 3 weeks and wants to start ASAP and here's us with a shop full of stock for Christmas

Hope you get it sorted Debbie.

Sorry to hear that Debbie
Hope you get it sorted soon.

Similar to Seabird we have a Remoska that we use.
Can never replace an oven as it's small, but we use it to cook a lot in (cheaper to run as well)

Thanks both.  I'll get something sorted one way or another - wouldn't be so bad if it was summer.  I do have two small ovens - ones a rotissery oven and grill that I leant to my mum when she was moving in September until her new kitchen was finished - thats in London with her and another small combi oven that I lent to my friend when her oven was condemed in the summer - thats in Kent with her and she till uses it.  Oh well.

How about a drum with a fire underneath   we use wood burner (inside) but have drum type one for BBQs

I have gone down the old fashioned route of calling an engineer.  local guy, free call out and thinks its the cooling fan or something.  looked on line and the price of a replacement is anything between 15 and 70 depending on what  is needed.  he is coming out to look this afternoon - got to be cheaper than a new oven and this ones only about 5 or 6 years old

glad you have found someone to have a look at it.

Fingers crossed it does not cost much to put right

Thats one of the advantages of living down here I think is that the hourly rate for workmen/repairmen is so low its worth calling them out - if I was paying 90 an hour plus a call out fee it would be cheaper to pay out 250 for a new one.  A sample of our now throw away society I think - its no longer worth having things repaired.

That's a good price, hope he fixes it for not much!
