Manky chicken bits.

I set the fox trap last night with the above tasty morsels. We''''ve had quite a bit of fox attention this last week or two, with lots of foxes shouting at night and some digging going on in the manure heap for tit bits.
I''''ve been meaning to set the trap for the last few nights but we''''ve had severe gales that would have set the trap off fox or no fox. Now the weather has calmed down, I''''m quite hopeful of having a result in the next few days or so.
I''ll be going out to check shortly.

No luck last night, but here are a few pictures of my home made fox trap. I've had quite a few in it over the years.

The manky chicken bits have proven to be resistable so far.

Fingers crossed you get him soon

I just might have some news for you tomorrow morning. It was so windy last night that the trap was set off by the wind. This morning, there were fox tacks all round the trap and you could see where it had tried to dig under the trap to get at the bait. You can rest assured that it will be set tonight. I'm very hopeful of a good result.

With a bit of luck, I might have something a little more interesting for you in the morning and going by the size of its paw prints, it won be a small one either.

Good luck Bodger

Its been as windy as hell over night, so here's hoping that the trap was still set when the fox got round to it.

Nothing doing I'm afraid.
The weather is very still this morning but for the last few nights the wind has really got up. I mean REALLY got up and the trap has been set off.

Everything comes to he who waits. Two nights a go, we had a number of foxes shouting around the chicken pens. My fox trap has been set for over a month and this morning I got a result.
I could smell fox virtually as soon as I went into the farmyard to start feeding the stock and here's the culprit.

It was a dog fox and was in excellent condition. It weighed 15lb and has now been sent for reprogramming.
The guy living in the house at the top of the field keeps a few chickens and was amazed and shocked that there are actually foxes in our area. He's lived in the countryside all his life.
The fox has destroyed the wooden treadle, so if it stops raining today, then thats a job that I need to do.

Good man !

I've got a a dead chicken in as bait, but if you look carefully, you'll see one of our dogs cuddly toys. A fox nicked it from the garden a few months ago and took it up into the fields. Poor old 'Pink Sheepy Thing' stunk of fox urine, so I slung him in as bait.
A few nights ago, a fox managed to get hold of him and drag him partly through the mesh and chewed his leg off.  Revenge is sweet, our dogs liked 'Pink Sheepy Thing'.
It wasn't the same fox that made those humping great prints a month ago.

Incidentally? I've always found that 32g of No#6 acts as an excellent 'disuader'

Good going Bodger, now is the treadle fixed and the trap re-set for tonight?

No rest for the wicked. I've been up for the last hour after hearing a fox trying to get in at some of my chickens. I heard quite a cafuffle outside and rushed outside in my dressing gown to find that a fox had tried to pull one of my birds out through the chicken netting.
I've tried to go back to bed, but its one of those nights/mornings where there are foxes calling all around us. I'll have to keep on going outside now, until daylight comes, just to keep them away.
Later on today, I'll have to assess things and run a few more lines of electric wire.

Famous last words, but i think that I'm close to catching another fox in the trap. The last two mornings, there have been signs that one's been digging, trying to get into the trap at the end where the bait is. Somehow, last night it had managed to get hold of the bait and in giving it a good pull and a shake, it had sprung the trap. I've altered things a little for tonight, so as usual, I'm ever hopeful.

The wind set my trap off a couple of nights ago and I didn't bother resetting it. This morning I noticed that something had actually moved the trap about five yards. The trap, needless to say has now been reset.
